Thers a story in todays Australian that we may not be able offer Matt Geyer another year due to salary cap pressure. It seems that the second year of the contract he signed last year is an option year at the discretion of the club which I didnt realise.

Personally I dont think he should go another year, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Waldron always says that you cant let emotion decide your future, stay tuned.

As well as Matty has been going this year IMO he should hang up the boots next year. I might get in trouble for that but i think if he stays on he'll be keeping a young bloke out of the squad and i'm not sure that's overall what's best for the teams future.

I love Matty Geyer, he's a great bloke and has been probably the best clubman there's been But like i said in another thread, these hard decisions have to be made so we keep moving forward as a club by bringing in the new players and turning over the ones that may be past their best or don't suit the team anymore. That sounds harsh i know but if we get caught up in the romanticism of keeping players longer than we should for whatever reasons then we'll get left behind everyone else.

Besides, if we do then what better way than to hang up the boots than with a premiership? ;-)

I think he'll go early with no hard feelings. I think if anyone knows that footy is a business it's Boofa. Think about it; he stayed here for 10 years when he coulda have gone elsewhere for better money. Thats business.

This salary cap nonsense has to be fixed. Why can't there be a level whereby after say 10 years with a club, a veteran player can finish his career without having to come under a salary cap?

Keep Geyer in a utility position...but I also think that Quinn is on his last chance as he is way too inconsistent.

Agree I am starting to lose patience with Quinn...how long can he keep up the old "I am new to the club and their positional patterns" line when it is plain to see that defensively he is a liability and gets caught out of position too often for my linking.

On Geyer.

You'll find that he will remain in Melbourne after he has finished playing and will most likely perform some type of off field role.

The issues seems to be a managers agenda and the Storms realisation that on form they might not be able to find a place for Geyer in the top 17 next year. (therefore prompting Geyer might consider retiring while he is still on top),

Geyer staying in Melbourne...will play hooker and utility role which should be interesting.

IMO Matty would make a good back up hooker...good passing skills, good speed and can tackle.
