Matthew Lodge Arrested in New York

How soft is the US justice system? How does someone not see jail time for what Lodge did?

Exactly for what he did he needed to serve proper hard time to then even be taken seriously for next steps for re-registration wether it be community programs or whatever.

The original ruling was 2 years jail that's what he should have got but because he's on Australia citizen he gets off scott free and can thumb his nose at the civil judgement to boot

My mistake.

Let's all cry in a safe space together for the rest of our lives.

It's the Canard SJW way.

That'll teach the kid the resilience he needs to overcome hardship.

I've never seen someone tougher then this guy.

Dispensing toughness with every mash of the keyboard.

A complete and utter fabrication of my stance.

But that's the way people debate these days.

I simply stated that the parents taking the view that they'll all be traumatised for life might not be the best way to overcome their traumatic experience.

And in response everyone loses their minds and has a big cry. What a time to be alive.
How is it a fabrication? It’s what you posted mate.

I wasn't referring to the 9yr old kid. I was referring to the parents.

I'm pretty sure I've stated that the experience was traumatic; especially for the kid.

But apparently it makes me an internet tough guy and utter garbage to go on and argue that kids are mightily resilient and, rather than being scarred for life, he will overcome this incident.

I would have thought it common knowledge that through 1000s of years of evolution and hardship that human beings are remarkably resilient beings.

And from a psychological perspective I don't think taking the approach that you'll be traumatised for life is the best way to cope. But then I'm not a doctor; I'm just utter garbage for calling children resilient :D

Anyway there's no point going on debating this topic as it's clearly too emotionally charged for most people (not you). It's now more of a 4C debate.

If it goes on any more some will twist my words even further to the point where I apparently support Matt Lodge.

So, your issue is with the New York justice system, the DA's office and sentencing judge, go take it up with them hero. Could it possibly be that an experienced prosecutor assessed the case and the available evidence and determined that the plea bargain was in fact appropriate punishment for the criminality involved? Then, shock/horror, that plea bargain agreement has been approved by an experienced judge seized of all of the facts and evidence. Why do you think that might be Razor?

Do you possibly think that all of those years of legal experience and training might trump some numpty from Australia sprouting crap on the internet? He spent two weeks in Rikers Island. He then complied with all of the requirements of the plea bargain agreement including performing community service, avoiding alcohol consumption, including submitting regular urine samples for testing. He has voluntarily participated in education programs with kids and he has been restrained from earning money from an NRL contract for 2 years at a potential cost of anywhere between $300,000.00 to $600,000.00, but yes let's run with he has got off `scott free'. You're level of stupidity about this is amazing even for you.

He should never have been registered, but people need to understand that the victims lawyer is going through the media because they either believe it's a quicker & cheaper way to pressure Lodge to commit to paying off the compensation than going through Australian court proceedings, or because they don't feel they would be successful getting the judgment recognised in an Australian court.

They want to be paid, understandably, but don't buy the 'role model for Australian children' crap, if he was paying them from a million dollar contract they wouldn't give two shits about Australian children, as they have said previously, "they don't want him to not be allowed to play rugby". It's about money, let's call it for what it is, which should also make people not blindly accept that "he hasn't apologised", or made any effort to pay them compensation. He shouldn't have been registered, no doubt, but that shouldn't stop the media from basic balanced reporting, it doesn't make Lodge look any less of a grub, but it gives more credibility to the story.
The first post in this thread worth reading.

Is it? the guy's a ticking time bomb.

I would've thought Newy would stay away from players Bennett was trying to sign after what he did to the club. Was it ever confirmed they were tabling an offer, why would they ruin their 'redemption' feel good story by signing Lodge?
Because they were in for anyone?

tldr

but something about not lodge's problem...yes it is it his problem it's about being fit and proper for representing the game and not damaging it's brand from being a thug and a meathead who hasn't been punished adequately. the nrl doesn't need a criminal record to reject a registration. it's all about corporate pressure, and in lodge's case it's only just begun

The second worth reading. Amazing how ignorant and naive the vast majority on here are of the legal systems.

Knowing that what happened was very ordinary. Out of curiosity, why is every one so upset now? Is if because he didn’t go to jail, allegedly hasn’t made an attempt at payment or is it because some see playing in the nrl as a privilege?
It's a Broncos thing.

We know your motivation, why would I/Lodge care what you think ?

Not sure I'm following you, mate.

I just made a comment that I'd have no use for an apology so wouldn't bother seeking one out. But $1.6M would be something I'd bother chasing.

I doubt Lodge will read it and you've cared enough to respond lol what is your point?

it isn't an aspect of justice we're used to tho in Australia
making financial gain out of a crime
so our legal system says no , $ does not equal closure

you are entitled to be compensated for medical expenses & loss of income etc
but thats it
our courts would laugh at a claim of 1.6 million in compensation
because its absurd.

So what? Gotta play by the country's rules. Dont go on a rampage where there are punitive damages. Dont import drugs where they can swing you by the neck.

Fyi The payouts to the couple were under a mill taking into account exchange rate and the third victim.

Once again, the body governing the operation of the game with full knowledge of the facts has agreed to register his contract.

Are you, or did you run the same campaign in relation to Russell Packer, Greg Bird, Danny Wicks (particularly when he was signed by your club), Kirisome Auva or the many other saints who have been allowed back in? If so, can you provide the evidence of this? If not, you are a hypocrite and it seems your real problem is the club he has signed with.
