McGahee to Rugby

At first I thought this was rugby league and was pretty excited, but after digging around it appears to be a union organisation. Either way, it'll be interesting to see how he goes:

Willis McGahee Reportedly to Work Out at National Rugby Football League Combine

Willis McGahee may be done in the NFL, but the former running back isn't quite done carrying a ball and evading tackles just yet.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, McGahee isn't attempting a football comeback, but rather is going to try his hand at rugby next month:

McGahee spent 11 seasons in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns. He finished his career with 8,474 rushing yards, 65 rushing touchdowns, 1,339 receiving yards and five receiving scores. He was voted to two Pro Bowls.

It bears watching whether the 33-year-old can forge a second career for himself in rugby. At 6'0" and around 225 pounds in his playing days, he certainly has the build for the sport, and he did make his money evading or breaking tackles.

Whether his body can take the abuse after spending 11 years in the NFL is another story altogether.

With his size he would have to be a back. Interesting to see if and how it works out.

I reckon he'll be a second-rower or flanker or whatever they call them in union. He won't have any kicking skills.

It's such a shame he isn't having a shot at league, it's so much more suitable to NFL players than union is.
