I hate the title "World Champs" when there are only 2 clubs from 2 countries involved.....

Its like the SuperBowl - they call themselves World Champions and its only America competing.

Bit of a false accolade.

But congratz to the Storm. It was a pretty entertaining game..

Actually, teams from five countries were involved, but only two can qualify for the final. So, it's a little bit better than the Super Bowl and its 'World Champs' from one country.

Good call.

I didn't realise this game was even on today, good to see the Storm got up though, it gets a bit tedious hearing the poms come out and claiming that super league is as good as the NRL when they beat a reserve grade team each year.

Recap of game:
http://www.melbournestorm.com.au/default.aspx?s=article-display&id=22985&world-champions!

Billy was good in defence.. was very wet and muddy so not alot of speed.
Storm were composed well for the full 80..
you gotta hand it to Bellamy.. the discipline and composure in defence that this club
shows is pretty awesome over the full game..

Cam Smith got Man of the match.. playing at halfback for prety much the full game.
He was very good.. some beautiful kicks forced Leeds to work it out from there end a number of times..

Blair was dam good.. Quinn was back and looking good.
2 debuts from Jesse Bromwich and Hep Cahill, were impressive.
Big prob Aiden Tolman played most of the game and was very good.

Dunno if Lowrie played..

Leeds winger dropped te ball over the line TWICE.

Should have won easily if not for whoever that goose was.

Blair showing te typical Melbourne attitude of good sportsmanship throughout the game and after the winning try too

He didnt drop nothing.. He got shoulder twice.. By Billy and GI first.. then Billy second.. which dislodged the Ball..
It was good defence.

He had the ball in hand, and dropped it putting it down twice.

His arms were not struck in either chance. He choked and will be feeling it at the moment.

He dropped the wcc trophy twice.

If Donald wasn't injured on that wing he walks those trys in.

Leeds blew a fair few others, including the one in the first minute. I wish they'd scored that as it may have opened the game up a bit more.

We all knew it was going to be a game of attrition - but what the hell was Silverwood thinking with the PTB speed? It was like being back in 2008. I couldn't decide if I was pissed off a good game was played like that, or incredibly relieved that we didn't have to sit through an entire season or two of dire football again.

Amazing work for the Storm to win this game. I had intended to get up and watch it until I found out it was only on Fox Sports. I dunno why but I thought they played this game on Channel 9. At any rate to overcome the injuries, weather conditions and playing away from home with only a fraction of the match experience up their belt to find some form is just awesome.

good onya storm, anything to shut up those poms who keep saying SL is as strong as the NRL.

would have liked to watch it but nein didnt think that as the FTA broadcaster in australia they should have shown it at a reasonable time.

Great to see the Australian teams taking this game seriously for the last couple of years. If the Dragons were playing in the WCC I know that I would desperately want them to be world champions and im sure the fans of many other NRL clubs feel the same. NRL clubs should try to win this game if not for themselves than for the fans because if it doesn't mean anything to the players i can guarantee it means something to the fans to have their club recognised as best in the world.

Clearly you didn't watch it.

It was an absolute sh*t fight. Leeds had the better of the early running - they went within a cm of scoring from their own kick-off. They could so so easily have chalked up a few more was luck on their side.

Then it resembled the Somme. The ruck was abysmal (which suited Melbourne to a tee). The only two "real" trys came from an intercept and a quick tap from a penalty. Both defences were set 99% of the time and 99% of the time neither side looked like scoring. Slater and Inglis were invisible. Smith was woeful. Same can be said for the key men for Leeds.

The game opened up a bit in the last 10, but, were it not for the quality of the packs and the aggression showed by both sets of big boys - it would not have been worth watching. Just like two years ago, and just like was predicted - they both nullified each other. The two best big game teams in the world at the moment.
