Skilled Park is simple single tier stadium with a capacity of 27,000, built at an area that is (currently) sparsely occupied.

The Melbourne Rectangular Stadium is Multi-tier stadium with a capacity of 32,000, that will house the administrative offices of the Storm and Victory, and is being constructed near the centre of the city. It was always going to take longer to construct.

It will also house the admin offices of the Melbourne Demons and have a state of the art training & rehab facilities including a lap pool.

Storm expect the new stadium will help to increase memberships to 20k plus. Storm claim they have the best occupancy deal as the key tennant.

Victory have only committed to playing a maximum of 7 games per season at the new stadium.

When i said the stadium was going to go ahead at the higher capacity i was referring to the higher than original capacity of 20 odd thousand. From memory the compromise was around 27,500 or there abouts.

I never denied the stadium is only going to be 31K only because of MV. Of course that's the only reason and if that wasn't the case it would've been built by now. Like i said in my original post that's why it's been help up for so long because of their bitching and moaning holding everyone to ransom after agreeing to the original capacity. I'm not sure where i lied, that's what they did.

In all honesty i couldn't give a toss if the Victory's acceptance of the stadium was more important than the Storm. I don't really get off on the my dicks bigger than yours type arguments but you go right ahead, each to their own and all that. All i give a sh*t about is the new stadium and my team playing out of it.

I don't even mind having to share it, it's just a pity it has to be dirty spitting grubs like Victory players and their hooligan supporters. But since that's the case can you please just make sure you blokes don't rip all the seats out like you've been known to do so everyone else that uses the stadium has somewhere to sit? Oh and don't burn them with your flares either you'll make the place look unsightly.

What BrisVegas said above. But you can also question the arseclowns that are the Melbourne Victory on why it's taken so long. They ummed, ahhed and basically f**ked around holding the government and all other tenants to ransom for over a year threatening to not use the Stadium after originally agreeing to the planned number of seats.

The government got jack of them like everyone else and announced that they were going to build the stadium with or without them at the higher capacity and it was only then they signed on. So over a year, almost $80m more than the original cost we'll have our new stadium ready in the last month of next year providing there's no delays.

Just in time for the soccer season. Unfortunately I fear at first it will feel like Storm playing out of Voctory's stadium. I hope not, but who knows.

The soccer fans will probably feel like that, not the RL fans. The Storm will be playing more games there and they were first to sign on to the stadium so they've probably got a better deal.

You're right there, i certainly won't feel like that at all. I'm under no illusions thinking it's just our stadium because it's not, just as it's not only Victory's or anyone elses. As long as it doesn't affect our fixtures i say the more teams/sports that use the ground the better and don't have any issue with it whatsoever. It's there so we might as well use it whenever we can.

I'm a member of both the Storm and Victory, so I'll get to use it year round. After putting up with the horrible facilities at OP it will be like heaven when we move in.

As for the delay in building it. Sure it was annoying that it got delayed by about 6-12 months, but in the end I think we can all agree that Melbourne (as a city) ended up with a vastly better stadium out of it. Let's not get into pissings contests, let's just look at the fact that Melbourne will have the best mid-size rectangular stadium in the country.

The state of the art gym facilities, lap pool, admin areas, megastore and cafe make the design all the more complicated than the Titans stadium.

It looks stunning too. It's not you standard flat pack style stadium, it has a bit of character about it. Whilst Skilled Park is a nice stadium, it's a bit boring in design. The same cannot be said for the MRS.

I predict in 2010 Melbourne Storm average crowd will exceed that of at least 3 AFL teams.

If sold right they should average 23-25 for the season, I think this will be time when we can say RL has a presence in Melbourne.

Looks pretty good. The Storm and Rugby League in general would benefit greatly out of this. It says on the website that it's built in 2009 (I assume that's proposed) but no mention of when it'll be completed or opened.

While we're on the topic of Rugby League in Melbourne, just in case anyone missed it, QLD will move game 1 to Melbourne next year for Origin.

I've heard that (provided we make it of course) the new stadium will be ready for the 2009 finals series. Of course we could have been playing out of it this season if Smelbourne Victorianry didn't piss & moan about how it was too small for them.

Skilled Park, announced around the same time as this puppy, has been finished for almost a year.

Melbourne Victory, mate. It wouldn't go ahead without them as a co-tenant and they didn't agree with the initial capacity it was going to be (about 24K IIRC) as they got 40K+ crowds at the time.

Probably some kind of insulation to keep the temperature constant, like the Water Cube in Beijing.

I think that'd be far from the primary reason, Melbourne's full of stuff that's weird for the sake of weird (see federation square :lol). It'll also be somewhat of a novelty, not just another rectangular stadium like Parra or MES.

Despite you having posted your displeasure with the MVFC in the previous five or so posts, (no one cares btw), would you rather the Storm play out of a 34,000 stadium, or a 20,000 stadium?

The ground is going to be far more better for all sports because of the Victory holding out on it.

Yep you are right, it uses less steel so it saves money and looks good at the same time.

And as far as I know, pretty much all seats will be covered by the roof, so when it rains almost everyone will be covered.

Despite the Victory bashing in this thread, there is no doubt that if it weren't for them Melbourne (as a city) would have ended up with a vastly inferior stadium. We have a better stadium because of it. I'm prepared to cop a 12 month delay for it.
