I supported my local team (2nd grade Newcastle comp) up until the point I stopped supporting Rugby League altogether, due to the actions of my local team's players. I supported the dragons as a school kid living north of Newcastle because I wanted to support a team in the top tier competition and I just picked them out of a hat.

When the Knights entered the competition I immediately grasped them as my local team in the top tier competition, have ever since and always will. Dragons will always be a part of my history, but it was never a serious relationship... If Newcastle had been in the competition when I was a child we wouldn't be having this discussion.....

I have worked you out.....you are bitter and disappointed that you have changed teams and missed out on 16 premierships.

Maybe next year you will return

A fair enough opinion. But what if a new team comes into your area which is what happened to me - from age 6 - 8 I followed the bears, then Canberra came into the comp. Living in Canberra I switched allegiences to the local side. Does that make me disloyal because as a child I decided to switch teams?

It took 31 years and a merge with a team with a huge junior base to again bring celebrations into your area... I've had much to celebrate in that time... the disappointments have been few and far between.. try again...

But if your suggesting a 6-8 year old kid has to stick to the same team for life or they're not a real fan then that is unreasonable.

What if they end up becoming a professional player - do they have to play with the club that they had to commit to for life even though that club may not sign them?

In that time you've won 2 premierships compared to our 1. How is that much to celebrate? :lol:

Not withstanding the fact that your first premiership was in a competition that had half the teams (albeit being one of the best GF's I've ever seen), and your 2nd premiership as it turns out was with a team that had a few drug cheats in it.

BTW prior to the merger, St George had no problem with poaching juniors from the Illawarra, we just made the relationship official.

Ok that is a bit different, for example two of my cousins liked the Eels when they were about 8 years old, but one went to the darkside of the bulldogs shortly after and has always supported them, the other was a very smart guy and supported the Dragons shortly after ever since. This is the case with alot of people, I have heard many times kids supporting horrible teams when they are young and too stupid to know any better, so that is ok.
