Finally cashed in my extended flight credit (from the Warriors not making the Grand Final last year!) - flying to Sydney for the Good Things festival next month, finally get to tick KoRn off of the bucket list!

Will need to familiarise myself with some of the more niche or non-mainstream bands on the lineup, any recommendations in particular (see : good things festival.com.au/lineup )?

At this stage, definitely gotta see Korn, Sum41 & Kerry King as never seen any of them; love Mastodon (seen twice now) & Highly Suspect (saw last year) so pretty keen for them again, and while I'm OK with Billy Corgan, Violent Femmes, Living End, Killing Heidi & Jet, I have seen before so happy to forgo for bands I've never seen before if there's a clash.

Im a big fan of Loathe, theyre kinda like a modern deftones so if they’re you’re kinda thing you’ll love loathe. this song goes hard AF

I like some of northlanes stuff, their 2019 album alien was a banger, wasn’t as big a fan of their newer ones

Nice, will check them out.

And yup into Deftones - still waiting for them to come back after their last show was canceled due to being scheduled the weekend the country shut its borders in 2020!

So Good Things was fun, I especially loved how I was totally drenched before I even got in the venue 😅

Apologies to all, as a Wellingtonian I seem to have brought the cooler wetter weather with me over to Sydney this weekend hah!

Got in just in time to catch the last few songs of Loathe, then in order saw Bowling For Soup, Butterfly Effect, Alpha Wolf, Living End, Northlane, Mastodon, L7 (... Chicken Schnitzel break here 😋...), Jet, Violent Femmes, Sleeping With Sirens, Kerry King, Electric Callboy, KoRn.

Korn gotta be the highlight having never seen before, as an over-40 I found Electric Callboy bewilderingly entertaining (wasn't up with the play with their act beforehand), enjoyed Mastodon but wished the drumkick volume was down a few notches and the vocals up a few notches, was happy to see Living End again having first seem them at a little Uni Orientation gig back in '01, and was impressed by Loathe and Northlane.

Haven't been to a festival since BDO 2011 so wasn't sure how my old legs would hold up, but I survived intact 😅

Edit: forgot L7 and Sleeping with Sirens, only caught the tail end couple songs of each set. Also I didn't really see much of Jet, though they made fine background music while I devoured the Schnitzel wrap 😅

Opeth touring this year (November) as well, one on my bucket list that I've never seen live.

No Sydney which is odd.

Opeth Australian & New Zealand 2025 Tour Dates

November 14th, 2025 - Town Hall, Auckland
November 20th, 2025 - Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane
November 21st, 2025 - Palais Theatre, Melbourne

Not sure if anyone saw local Sydney Hardcore band Speed played at Coachella last night and from what I saw absolutely slayed! Insane for a band with approx 153k monthly listens on spotify to play at one of the worlds biggest music festivals, particualry one that focuses on pop

Sydney old school death metal band Anoxia just dropped their debut full length - they’ve been playing live a lot recently and got some high profile tour supports (Left to Die, Atheist), highly recommend checking them out, album stream here:

Go back 3 pages and I said over 2 years ago these guys were going to be the biggest band in the world, even saying that i didnt expect this sort of rise. Never seen anything like it in the heavy scene.

That's dope!

I love their vibe. 2 had inspo from early house/DnB, great band for eclectic music tastes.

Some of those festivals in Europe look off the charts, RockamRing in Germany and Download in UK. Would be incredible to attend.

Ascensionism might just be the greatest song I've ever heard
