Mezmerize

Great album. First thing I like about it is that it doesn't drag on for more than 40 minutes which artists these days feel compelled to do. There are very few albums in the history of music that stay genuinely interesting for 70+ minutes. And this one is fantastic, 40 minutes of killer music. Really fresh and interesting.

Good album. I'm a bit concerned about the blatant double album thing... but if the next one is as good as Mezmerize then I suppose it'll be justified.

Until that time... down with crass commercialism!

I can't believe you all feel that way. It sounds like they've just f*cked around with boom for over half an hour, and then it stops when you're expecting like twenty more minutes. It shouldn't even be acknowledged as coming from the same band that released Toxicity.

Yeah it is kinda ordinary... Toxicity blows this one away 50 times over, I don't know what it is but their music has just lost something.

So do you normally want artists to just churn out the same music over and over again?

If musicians didn't change their style, experiment and heavens forbid, move forward, music would be boring as bat sh*t. If you like Toxicity, and Toxicity only, then feel free to listen to Toxicity only. However, it isn't 2001 anymore, and so SoaD aren't going to play like it is 2001 anymore.

Time to move on. Same goes for anyone else who 'likes their old stuff more than their new stuff.' Isn't that the most cliched line in the world of musical fandom.

Yeah only one band in the world are allowed to make the same album over and over again for 20 years and it's AC/DC. And they're allowed to cos it's such a damn good album and I don't mind hearing it over and over again :D

If their stuff gets progressively worse every time, then yes.

Jae, please go put Toxicity on loop and listen to it as many times as you like then.

Those of us that appreciate that music isn't stagnant will listen to, and enjoy, Mezmerize.

You mean those of you that are willing to accept mediocrity in the name of "progression"? Here's a friendly tip, just because you like the band doesn't mean you have to like all of their subsequent albums. Considering your stance on this, I guess you consider St. Anger to be a Metallica classic. Because you know, they can't be stagnant.

Do I like all of their subsequent albums? God no. I thought 'Steal This Album' was absolute trash.

What do I think of St Anger? I think its a solid album. Certainly nothing to get overly excited about - it would've been better if the songs weren't all so long and repetitive. But otherwise, I quite enjoy it. Perhaps this is because I judge music based on what it sounds like, rather than the name attached to it.

Here's a friendly tip: listen to music with an open mind. You might find you like some of the things that are out there.
