Yes, Lockyers incident was covered alot more extensively in Brisbane than Voss' was, because, now listen carefully here: Lockyer is the Broncos, Origin and Kangas captain, the local champion and one of the very best players of the number one local code

Heres the tip, if Banaldo or whatever from the Roar got into a fight it would be covered about the same as Voss.

The point isn't the relative amount of news coverage - that is to be expected given the sports' relative profiles in Queensland.

The issue is that Voss has just been through a heavily publicised (in Queensland) campaign with regards to two coaching appointments - firstly the proposed GC17 Team and secondly the Brisbane Lions.

This was discussed with some depth on "neutral" media outlets (ABC local radio as an example). The extent of the coverage given and whether it is deserved is a different issue for another thread.

I heard numerous discussions re- the Voss topic (admittedly most in passing). None - and I repeat none - made reference to the assault for which Voss had been charged and brought before a Court. He avoided a conviction only by entering the diversion program in Victoria where an offender pleads guilty to the offence.

None of this was mentioned although it is clearly relevant in evaluating a person's character. Those "neutral" media outlets were in fact at the very same time lauding Voss as a "champion bloke" and other such hyperbole...

You have no idea tool. AFL got a massive run up in Brisbane during their 4 Grand Final years and Voss's face was splashed all over the joint. The Brisbane media drooled over him. The fact they virtually ignored his night-club incident says plenty about the cosey relationship the AFL has with the media Australia-wide.

Sure, they report AFL-related incidents in Melbourne, but they never bag the actual game or its culture. AFL is still seen as the game mothers should let their kids play. This is not the case in league and it appears one incident can trigger off a media frenzy for any other trivial, heresay type things that may have occured in the past.

Again, Roy Masters must really get on your nerves drip.

For what it's worth Voss was skipper of a club that won 3 grand finals in a row of a sport that proclaims to be the number one show in this country. Surely that is news.

Lockyer is a rugby league player so society dictates that what he did was worse. No really, the Voss incident was disgusting and to be honest I don't know why Ten didn't bounce him. Although he was sacked by the State Government as a Good Sports ambassador.

look, I hate AFL and Locky is my favorite player in or out of a Storm jersey but he's making things a lot worse by himself if he lies and says it's not him in the CCTV footage.

Now that WOULD be scandalous. But at the end of the day the player at the centre of the allegation was let off and was free to allegedly offend again. So even if he was present I can't imagine much fuss would have been made about it!
