Witty was ok tonight.
I agree with strider, Witty's kicking game in general play this year has been average, everytime he goes to put in a kick I end up holding my breath, wondering where the hell it will end up lol
However, I really do like to see him take on the line, and wish he would do it alot more!
The same goes for the rest of the side though too.
This season we have struggled with halves again, and all the times we have put in kicks, whether it be grubbers, bombs etc it has rarely paid off, whereas the majority of the times we have ran the ball to the line, someone will find a hole or crash over.

Sounds to me like Burt would not the confidence to play at five-eighth at this stage. It's not an option I'd prefer to happen next year? Luke is a good winger, and hopefully will get to play there next season and get back to his best.

Was Witt playing a 1st reciver role the whole night???
I think because he is still maturing as a player the playmaking role needs to be shared with another player. This way there is not a whole amount of presure placed on him.

Put yourself in this kids shoes.

He is not playing as well as he was last year

why ?

at the start of the year he got told he was plyaing premmy league, no matter what.

whan he gets put in first grade he is played out of position

he finally gets a spot at halfback, sets a a victory against hte top team, then gets dropped, then gets omitted and when we have the bye, he gets left out of the PL team

he has been treated like shit, almost as if BS wants him to leave.

this has to mess with his head, I mean he is only 19 and is obviously not the player he was last year.

if anyone else had been treated like this, they would also be struggliing mentally to come to grips with thier situation.

how can anyone possibly develop into a better played when they get treated like this.

no wonder he is inconsistent at the moment.

I must have been watching a different game.

I thought Witt played well - he mixed it up and showed true class taking it onto the line.

Witty is down on a bit of confidence. He showed some signs that he's coming around last night but overall his perfromance was a little inconsistent. A good game though, but not a great one.

Fortunately we had alot more options in attack last night with Thorman, Webster & Burt all creating opportunities in attack for us so there was not as much pressure on Witt to carry the attack.

Witty played well, going by the way he has been pushed around. Hopefully Smithy will leave him there for the rest of the season because he's practically all we got (besides Tim Smith) for next yr.

Tonight proved my point re Smith, IMHO. Reason? Blokes like Hopkins, Peek, Pearson, Burt, Tsoulos etc stood up - the second stringers, the blokes each side needs to fire before they win. And Thorman and Witt played average games, and it meant that our halves fired better than they had all season. It was the FIRST time we have had a specialist half AND 5/8 playing in position all year! Had Smith not had his bloody obsession with the Llama all year, we might be knocking on the door os the finals with a young and confident halves pairing.

Yeah, it was only Cronulla. However, the Sharks keep on trying, and their 22 points was testimony to that.

Imagine what could have happened had we a decent coach who selected decent teams!

And yeah, Webster and Hopkins gave us great service from dummy half. I am warming a lot to Webster. He's nippy and enthusiastic, and gets the job done well.

Here's to Webster.

wittys goalkicking was great last night, and with a regular start a #7 will come confidence. Without ppl bagging him and telling him he's lost whatever he had last year will also come confidence :D

I thought Witty and Thorman played very well together - behind a pack that not only went forward but through the line helped.

I only saw the 2nd half and listen to the first half but from what I saw I thought both Witty and Thorman had respectable games.

The 2 real noticable differences with Witt at half was obviously the goal kicking but more importantly his defence was top shelf!!

Geez you have to be fan of the dual hookers. Works like a charm everytime.

Piggy, and perhaps Webster in 2005!!

sorry folks, I'm gonna rain on websters parade.

Great clubman, got a huge heart and has done the job on the odd occasion, I just dont think he has demonstrated an ability to do it week in week out.

can't understand people bagging Witt

he played above average against Cronulla in what was his first game "actually playing halfback and first receiver" in first grade all year

kicked well (apart from a couple of miscued charge downs) and tried some things with his kicking, took the line on well and his defence seemed to have improved greatly as well and combined well with Thorman, who incidentally was allowed to play 5/8?????????

give the kid a bloody chance for god's sake??????

thanks wittyz chick,

everyone is too quick to bag him and give up on him if he doesn't simply win the game all by himself????

it is beyond me sometimes, maybe thats what BS has been thinking too????
