More good news, now that just leaves a couple of the big dog selectors that have been making poor decisions for a long time to go, and we'll be in a good spot.

And that statement may be correct about our batting line up, but it's completely wrong when it comes to our pace attack. Who can keep us competitive by taking 20 wickets.

Their bowling averages are slightly flattering and are not quite a reflection of their ability (at the moment its at Steyn/McGrath level), but I can accept that the pace attack is at least decent and capable of bowling sides out.

Not sure about Harris just yet but Pattinson has potential and Siddle is a good hard toiler as a third seamer. Starc is like a young James Anderson right now, he is fodder if conditions don't help him. Mitch Johnson is weird, he was on his way to great things but who knows what happened.

So that gives us two maybe three decent quicks, a very average batting line-up barring Clarke, and mostly useless spin options. Yep I think most of the top eight in the world would at least compete with, if not beat that. Though my original statement is an exaggeration to a degree, they'll win *something* just not an awful lot.

Lol, did you watch the Indian series.

Some of the bats there struggled to average 20. My point is that even when Hussey was out of form it was still on par with some of the current mob's best....

When at least half the team does not respect the coach then he goes.

At the national level with stars the coach needs to earn respect not demand it.

Just bloody stunning.

Lost for words about how badly cricket Australia is being run.

He should have been punted after that homework debacle. In fact he should never have been hired. Australian cricket does not lack home grown options.

Now pat Howard and Sutherland must follow him after the ashes.
I think we should simply hire the best option, regardless of where they are from. That's what we need.

Happily have Gary Kirstin in charge, for example (not that he would, wants more time with his family).

Surely the fast bowling coach examples show that, when post Craig McDermott we could've had Wasim Akram or Waqar and went with Ali de Winter.

Most Australian cricket teams have stuggled in India. You cant use that series to show much imo.

Im aware of what your point is, but my original reply was simply to illustrate that the team survived without hussey once before.

That said, im well aware our batting stocks are at a very low eb. The worst since the 80's.

we still beat Sri Lanka 3-0, India 4-0, west Indies 2-0 and tie with south Africa 1-1 with largely the same side in the past 18 months.

You continue to ignore that.

a ranking in the region of 3 to 5 is very representative of where we are at.

Fair enough...the Indian series though demonstrated a real lack of fight or grit in the batting ranks and that from Hussey may have been invaluable.

I well remember the early 80s having been a teen at the time & whilst we were ordinary then that was in a time of part-time professionalism, rebel tours & generally crappy wickets (in Oz)...the current mob can't rely on any of these excuses yet they are paid like rock stars bought off the back of the previous generation & unworthy, rich television deals.

No problem with a bowling or batting coach being from O/S

But head coach is a different kettle of fish.

Understanding a culture is hugely important within a national team.

You only need to look at the homework debacle to see that. Head coaches are man managers, they need to understand the player's. Batting and bowling coaches are technical coaches.

it should have been Steve rixon instead of Arthur.

Why did Billy quit as bowling coach

he was spending too much time away from his family and home

and to those celebrating that Clarkie is no loner a selector, dont tell me he wont have any influence on the selection of certain players, remember Ponting and Andrew Symonds, the selectors will talk to the skipper when making decisions so there is no way he is completely out of the picture as far as selections go

Khawaja might get a game now.. Too bad he has lost all his summer form..
He didnt exactly bang the door down, and that's the biggest problem - no batsmen are really banging the door down. Any selection is a gamble on potential.

Maybe SOK can get a guernsey now that Clarke's out of the way.

Probably not, not the sort of bowler they're looking for in terms of test selection, too flat, too roundarm. Would've been good in India though, probably would've had success on those wickets, not so sure about here (at test level) or in England though. Agar looks a good prospect.

sure

So (hopefully) when new selectors say to Clarke "we need to get SOK in the test side, and stick with him for a couple of series at the very least". Clarkes gonna say "I prefer a any plodder who averages 45 in FC cricket like we have been selecting and besides Stephen is good friend with Katich"
