Nice one

Could be a good profile builder for league. Can't remember if we've had a significant rl movie outside of the local movies that not many people outside of oz see

good profile builder for league??

gareth thomas as played union for most of his life, with about 1 season of league added in at the tail end of his career..

all of his turmoil (hiding in the closet and the noise when he came out) happened when he was a union player....

great concept for a movie, but really not sure how making a movie about a bloke who has played 99% of his career in rugby union will help league?

unless it simply points out to the rest of the world how boring union really is...?

On the biggest change after returning to the Union code: "It's the first time I've been cold for seven years. I was never cold playing rugby league." - Jonathan Davis, A Question of Sport BBC TV (1995)

This Sporting Life (1963)

Storyline

In Northern England in the early 1960s, Frank Machin is mean, tough and ambitious enough to become an immediate star in the rugby league team run by local employer Weaver. Machin lodges with Mrs Hammond, whose husband was killed in an accident at Weaver's, but his impulsive and angry nature stop him from being able to reach her as he would like. He becomes increasingly frustrated with his situation, and this is not helped by the more straightforward enticements of Mrs Weaver.

and they'll just call rugby league - rugby anyway.

Although I hope they recreate his first 'hitup' in league. Hilarious.

with a 58 year Mickey Rourke trying to play a 30 something, all this film will do is show the world how Union ages you prematurely.

Rourke was at the Millennium Magic Weekend at Cardiff. SKY interviewed him and asked him about the game (Salford vs Crusaders) and he looked clueless considering he was there to watch Thomas and research RL. He was with some rah rah bloke who is obviously giving Rourke the bias.
I sense this film will be mainly covering union but will show RL at the end if done in chronological order.
Why can't Russell Crowe do a proper RL movie ffs?

As if an americanised movie will actually focus on the gameplay of league to promote it.

This movie will be like brokeback mountain, it will focus on the breakup of his marriage and the c**k he sucked thereafter, league will play 4th fiddle to everything else related.

No disrespect intended, but who would waste their time and money to produce a feature film based on rugby league... seriously?
