I hope the RFL now get their sht together and reclaim touch footy in the UK. F king scum union trying to lay claim to it!
The NRL needs to work with RFL, NZRL and others to implement Touch as anther form of rugby league. There is no real point in buying Touch if other non rugby league organization overseas are using it to promot their sport for free :crazy:

Rfu has well and truly claimed touch footy in uk, even having a major sponsor on board for it. Would love to hear their blithering of how they explain the game has ltd tackles and play the balls!

I wonder how the tie in will work with the NRL? Branded balls and NRL branding on website? Wonder what else? Should change the name to touchRL or similar just to f**k off the rfu!

Yep, the UK rah rahs will be quaking in their shoes.

I doubt that they have ever heard of the NRL. They will do whatever they want to do, a minor name change will solve everything.

I'm sure they have heard of the worlds biggest domestic rugby comp, don't be ridiculous.

Fixed! Just sent the RFU an email asking whether it was virtuous of them to adopt inaccurate facts about Touch Footy/Rugby's roots and let them know of the truth.

Now they will be quaking!

Good for you. Doing something positive is a lot better than just having a whinge about it. They will be perspiring into their gin and tonics. :cool:

You have led a sheltered life if you think that the gindrinkers who run the RFU know, or care, anything much about Australia.

This forum might have not existed if it wasn't for the f**king RFU being merkin's to the Northern Union club's.
I hate the RFU with a passion.

As do most of us, including the then England RU captain, Will Carling, who famously referred to them as "57 old farts" in a radio interview, and was sacked within 24 hours.

You really don't think they know where SBW started? Or Brad Thorn? Or Wendell Sailor etc.? Of course they've heard of the NRL.

I think they have contracted the NRL to help them out with their TV negotiations.

They are a long way short of a billion.

Perhaps you are confusing the IRB with the RFU. The IRB has a world wide purview, the centre of the RFU's world is basically, Twickenham (slight exaggeration, but only slight).

The IRB management and staff would be very aware of what happens in the rest of the world, and in competing codes. The RFU committee members would only be interested in what happens in their own backyard, and, from my experience in working with the sort of upper middle class Englishmen who make up its ranks, they would make a point of not knowing anything at all about the antipodes and its players, and particularly its competing codes and competitions.

Official announcement
http://www.nrl.com/nrl-and-touch-fo...nership/tabid/10874/newsid/74000/default.aspx

The National Rugby League and Touch Football Australia have today launched an historic sporting partnership representing the biggest boost to participation and game development in the history of either sport.

NRL stars Sonny Bill Williams, Anthony Minichiello, Josh Morris, Matt King and Beau Champion joined Australian music sensation Jessica Mauboy and Australian Touch representatives Louise Winchester and Steve Roberts to celebrate the first game of the new era at Allianz Stadium.

The two sports will work together to create the largest sporting community in the country which will reflect the wider support that exists for Rugby League and the game’s commitment to ensuring there is a ‘place on the field’ for everyone.

The new agreement will bring more than 1.03 million participants together playing in competitions under a joint NRL-TFA banner. This is in addition to the 844,000 girls and boys who currently take part in NRL Development programs each year.

The partnership will represent the most significant national marketing and participation drive in Australian sport, create a year-round involvement with the Greatest Game of All and help Touch Football Australia raise its profile.

Long-term benefits include:

Greater recreation participation opportunities for all abilities and ages;
Lowering participation and insurance costs;
Co-ordinated pathways programs for elite athletes;
Opportunity for strategic funding of green-space and other sporting facilities;
More opportunities to work with government in the delivery of community and education programs.

Today’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding commits each party to finalise the terms of the partnership which will include discussions with the Australian Sports Commission.

“The new agreement with Touch Football Australia is a key strategic step in growing opportunities for Rugby League,” NRL Chief Executive, Mr Dave Smith, said today.

“Not only will it see more than one million people play in unified competitions, it brings together people from every state and territory, from almost every age group and every demographic.

“We have been very clear about our ambition to extend the profile and reach of Rugby League and working with Touch Football Australia will also enable us to pursue new commercial and marketing opportunities that we can leverage with new partners.”

Chief Executive of Touch Football Australia, Mr Colm Maguire, said the benefits to Touch Football Australia were significant.

“There is a real opportunity to grow the profile of touch both as a recreational game and an elite sport,” Mr Maguire said.

“Touch Football in Australia was born out of Rugby League and the opportunity to create Australia’s largest sporting community aligned with the NRL is as compelling as it is ambitious and fortuitous.

“Significantly, the partnership enables Touch Football to realise its vision articulated in its strategic plan, to become Australia’s leading community sport through strategic partnerships.”

The 'unified competitions' part is interesting, or I might just be reading too much into it...

The National Rugby League own NRLTouch.com so maybe that will be the branding.

NRL Touch was also trademarked yesterday

Has anyone also noticed the NRL now has "play NRL" instead of "Play Rugby League" - taking the tack of the AFL

They trademarked NRL Tag back a while ago too. Along with NRL Nines and the Play NRL thing it looks like they have a good plan to get more people playing modified versions of the game.

Will be very interesting to see what the sporting landscape looks like in 2017 after the ARLC have had a few years to put these plans into action.

I cant wait to see the new logo.

They would have to use the NRL badge, you would think. I hope they stick with the green and gold for the whole sport.
