Touch rugby is the most popular and firmly established non-contact sport for adults, while also being enjoyed by children of all ages and skill levels.

Touch appeals to sports enthusiasts and those looking for an alternative way of keeping fit through a fun game, which needs only a ball and a few jumpers for corner flags.

Basic Rules
Non-contact, removing elements such as scrums, rucks, mauls, lineouts and kicks
Tackles are replaced by touches
Touch rugby is often played informally
One common variation is that a fair touch must be below the waist
Very little equipment is required to play
The southern hemisphere hugely supports touch, which is no surprise as its roots can be traced back to Australia in the 1960s where it was used as a warm-up game for full 15-a-side rugby.

From the English rugby union website, apparently they run touch footy in England. People believe their lies and nobody ever seems to pull them up. Note the bit in bold, Absolute grubs!

I see heaps of families down here in the gong playing touch footy in the local parks all the time during the warmer months, I've noticed a lot more females playing to, and I'm starting to think a lot of them are using it to keep in shape, lose weight whatever while the whole family is involved.

Big thumbs up.

Touch Rugby is unique as it's the only sport I can think of where male and female play together as you don't get that in Soccer/AFL/Cricket/Hockey and Netball.

This is fantastic news! Great to find out they've been working on it for ages.

I'm not too sure how Touch operates internationally, hopefully other nations will look to align with their tackle rugby league counterparts and perhaps the 2017 edition of the Festival of World Cups will see tackle and wheelchair joined by some touch and tag competitions.

Yep. I've been hoping for a while RL could grow TRL. They should definitely push mixed touch as much as they can, it would be a positive way to attract participants and interest to the whole game.

Apart from netball, I can't think of any sport where the men's game isn't the primary focus. It would be a great look to actively promote mixed touch as a 'first among equals'...imagine the mixed touch final on TV in a double header with the RLWC Final

Here in NZ, Touch is its own sport. It would have been ideal if there was a tangible link between it and League but unfortunately League has missed the boat on that one here. It makes sense for the two codes to be intertwined given that the full-contact version is becoming more like the softer version as time goes by. Eventually, ‘touch’ will be all that remains of the two codes I foresee and if touch goes by the name of rugby league then all well and good and the current admin will be seen as geniuses as they should well be.

A world cup Touch torniment would be great in that it would plant the idea that Touch footy is a versin of Rugby League.

If the ARLC was in charge of running the WC, that would be the first move in trying to tie rugby league and Touch football together on an international level.

Excellent stuff. Advertising memberships for NRL clubs at touch comps, and getting touch comps associated with their closest NRL team could be a real source of new members for clubs.

Peter Fitzsimmons plays touch doesn't he, wonder how he and other RL-bigots are going to feel when they are playing under the NRL umbrella?

Yeah sure.
Its a done deal. Contact sport is on the way out - we're already seeing that today. Soon to be releashed ground-breaking medical reseach here in NZ will add fuel to the fire. The world is gravatating towards a safer, more healtheir enviroment - there will be no room for rough and tumble sports in the near future.

Touch, until the new bred of doctors get their claws into that sport too - will be the way of the future.

There's no idea to plant that's a fact!

Whatever certain groups want to believe, touch footy was invented by RL players for RL players and baring some minor rule changes is just a non-contact version of RL.

Whether or not people want to accept that fact is a different thing, but there's no need to 'plant any seeds' or bend the truth because it is the truth.
