My grandparents lived on Corrimal st for many years (early 60’s to mid 90’s). Wollongong lived and breathed rugby league during that era. Everyone followed St George and then some the Steelers. They told me stories of when Langlands would play footy in their front yard. They shared a driveway with their neighbors. Langlands would come over and play league with the two families across the two front yards. The games were reportedly brutal, the locals would turn up just to watch them play yard footy. The story goes that my grandparents’ neighbor made a clean break down the left touchline and Langlands cover tackled him through a thick 6 foot hedge bush just as he was about to score. I have no idea how someone could go through that. The gap in the hedge bush was still there when I was a young kid growing up in the 80’s.

This particular event would have been late 70’s.

Good post, mate. Speaking of back yard bbq's ...................

I witness a mate who had had too many drinks and started swaying in ever increasing circles until he fell into a thick hedge. I can tell you its not easy getting someone out of it. We weren't too far from dialling 000.
