Parra are the best most physical defensive side we've played since Melbourne. Hopefully Staines is up to the challenge of rucking it out under this kind of contact and pressure this time.

The only GF this age group won together was without Cleary

We wont win a gf without Cleary. Simple as that.

Hes probably the 2nd best player in the game atm behind turbo.

He has gone to another level this year..kicking game is best in nrl. His running game is top notch and his play making and vision are right up there with the best in the league.

He is our Co captain and leader. The way you hear freddy talk about him and how good he is for his age... he could be anything and im talking Johns/thurston level good.

If you compare where he is at compared to where JT and cronk were at his age its quite remarkable.

Will we win games without him, sure! But to win the comp you need your best players on the park and Cleary is basically best in comp.

In my opinion the club needs to be absolutley firm and tell him definitley no origin 3. Spend the next 6-8 weeks rebuilding shoulder as strong as possible and come back 3 or so games before end of regular season and get some miles in the legs for finals.

With a bye and a few teams outside the 8 coming up its so important we jag wins against the sides out of the 8. The more wins we can jag without Nathan I think it will allow the club to rest him longer.

Nathan by all accounts is the utmost profesional and Im sure he will be doing everything in his powers to get back asap.

I just think the club needs to have the finals in sight and not let him rush his return. He is the most important piece in the puzzle and even at 85% fitness id take him at 7 over anyone else..

He has shown how tough he is these last two SOO games. Hopefully the club can rehab him to the point where he has enough strength in it to tough out the season and than surgery.

We can cover any one single player... it is when several guys missing we will have issues.

Our defence is our strength. That is no worse off with Burton. Just need a reasonable kicking game to go with it.

For reference point Storm rank 12th in kicking. So we can fall and still be better in that department

I'm sure JT had a similar issue where he wore a "brace" that prevented him from lifting his arm past 90 degrees.

I hope his confidence isn't effected.

That's the biggest risk. A big part of Cleary's game is the effort plays - he has excellent defence and always involves himself in tackles, takes on the line, and puts his body on the line to clean up balls. If he loses any confidence in his body as a result of this injury he risks not doing those things as well. He also helps keep the defence in two minds with his running game - he is always willing to take on the line, and sometimes he busts through. If he becomes unwilling to take on the line, it'll make him far less effective. Teams are also going to know he is playing wounded and deliberately target him to try to make it worse.

I've a torn labrum, never got the surgery, work around it. It depends on how bad it is torn and so what angles of movements cause pain, but the pain stuns and debilitates you when you use your shoulder with any force on the angle that corresponds with the tear. He wouldn't have close to full strength doing actions on those angles or be able to weight train with decent loads. The pain does get better and better as it goes, and the brain starts understanding and compensating for the loss of stability.

Contact isn't an issue.

Nathan is the games best defending half and probably the best since Joey and Freddy. You really struggle giving him credit don't you? Burton is a gun but of course our defence will be weakened

Burton is the size of a 2nd rower with the speed of an outside back.

It isn't like we are replacing Cleary with someone like Walsh.

It is very close to like for like aside from the weaker kicking game but Luai will step up there.

It is not saying Cleary isn't good far from it. We are just that much better then every side in the comp

The forward pack is full strength. If we can hold them in the middle and complete our sets Parra won't get the 55% possession they appear to need to function properly. Even the Bulldogs dominated them while they had some ball.

I like the way the Storm look at having players out. It's not who is out that matters, it is who is in.

Luai defends better than Burton in the halves. Burton is not a strong tackler.

We are conceding less than 10 points a game after 15 rounds. It has to be some sort of record.

We have an Origin forward coming off the bench.
Have an origin player in number 7

We will steam roll sides still

He has shown in the past that injury won't keep him off the field.

Unfortunate that it will mean he misses the rep football at seasons end. Was a shoe in for the Australian 7 in the WC team.

I will only look at games in halves because that is his position

3 games he has made 61 tackles. 11 misses 84%

That ranks him equal with DCE.
In front of Wighton, Reynolds, Jerome Hughes, Moses ( Who is going to play origin), Ben Hunt and Sam Walker

Rank that v the 5/8th

In front of Munster, Cody Walker, Lam, Moylan

So even if with no Cleary. Burton stands up v the opposition in defence with the teams we will meet at the end of the year

Contact isn't an issue.

For as long as Knowles and his team can work on shoulder muscular stability, which accounts for 60-70% of stability as stated by the NRL Physio, this should hopefully get Nathan through the latter part of the season.

From my knowledge of functional anatomy, the glenoid labrum, along with the surrounding muscles, come together to act like a suction cup to keep the shoulder not only stable but mobile. So a tear would be testing the mobility but for as long as the surround muscles remain undamaged or uninjured, stability should still be ok.

My concern is that other teams will obviously be aware of this and will target his shoulder when he’s defending.
