South Sydney District Rugby League Football Club Limited is pleased to announce that former Cronulla Sharks five eighth, Mitch Healey, will be joining the club commencing November 10 in the capacity of NRL Assistant Coach.

Healey, a veteran of 222 first grade games for Cronulla, the second highest number of appearances on the club’s all-time list, has spent the last three seasons in England playing for Castleford where he’s played in a further 60 Super League matches.

“Mitch has played at the game’s elite level for 16 seasons and we’re excited about him joining the Rabbitohs,” said Chief Executive David Tapp.

“Mitch will join Brendan Hurst as one of two fulltime NRL Assistants working with Paul Langmack and we’re confident he’ll make a very solid contribution to the future of the Rabbitohs. The club has revamped its coaching and football operations structure in preparation for the 2004 NRL season and Mitch Healey will be an integral part our Telstra Premiership campaign. He is highly regarded as having one of the best kicking games in rugby league and that is certainly an area we need to work on,” Tapp added.

Healey says he’s delighted with the opportunity of joining the legendary Rabbitohs.

“This is a huge opportunity and I’m very grateful to Souths for giving me this chance,” Healey said.

“ After 16 years playing rugby league I was very hopeful of landing a role in coaching and I’m very much looking forward to the challenge of assisting Paul Langmack and the rest of the coaching team at Souths in an effort to maximize the enormous potential the club has. A lot of people don’t realize I actually grew up in the South Sydney district and I supported the Rabbitohs for much of my life,” Healey concluded.

Healey will return from England on October 28 and immediately prepare for his new role at Souths.

You've given this thread a very deceptive title, Jake. Not trying to fool anyone, are we ;-)

Hopefully Souths kicking game will improve significantly under Mitch Healy's coaching. Players seemed to be just kicking for the sake of it and often the ball would go dead, no chasers and kicks down the fullback's throat were all too common. Overall, a good decision by Souths to sign Mitch Healy.

enough to cater for every aspect of the game-defense, attack and kicking are the main ones. So he's got 3 there-and he has this set up for every player which gives him 75 assistant coaches for his "top" 25 players.

That's not overboard is it.

Langers needs to be given the arse-give ratsarse the coaching job!

Ratsarse for coach!
