Carney isn't a great 7.... he's most dangerous injecting himself into the backline or playing off the halfback.

here's the problem - no loyalty & no acceptance of reality.

1) queensland are a class above & comfortably so.

2) the selectors need to stick with a cadre of players for an extended period of time regardless.

the blues were highly competitive against the all-time great qld side. why ditch pearce? because at his very young age & low experience he was unable to orchestrate a victory against possibly the greatest team in history?

the groundwork for queensland's current dominance lay obviously with the existence of talent. but also, the hard yards were made in '03, '04 & '05 by not panicking after every loss.

some need to get a firm grip on reality instead of their trouser snake.

Pearce can't create? Anyone who thinks that obviously never watches Roosters games. His problem was that he was playing second fiddle to Barrett. As I said above, he should have told Barrett to get out of his way and taken control. Pearce is an organiser, Barrett is a running player. Why the hell Barrett was trying to do all the organising is beyond me.

Next year they need to pair Pearce with Sutton. And stick with them for the whole series.
WRONG! Pearce isn't a specialist half in terms of organisation, his main assets are pinpointed bombs when he's in the opposition 20, something that will no doubt be more valuable to us next year with Folau gone. If your genuine about watching Roosters game, you'd see that he comes in mostly as the support player from tackles 1-4 and generally only comes in at 1st reciever for a bomb, even then its usually Anasta that calls the shots.
IMO Soward would compliment Pearcey better as he doesn't overpower his respective halves partner and knows how to really distribute the ball out-wide, his long passing game is very nicely weighted and he's got a better ability in terms of kicking grubbers, something we're gonna need if we want to keep Jennings don't forget that he can compensate for a lack of forwards with a very long and powerful kicking game, the amount of times its helped a depleted dragons pack is amazing. Pearcey is better off running the support plays ie short passing to the inside, taking on the line with his good right foot step and putting in nicely timed kicks/bombs.

Wrong... Jason Maher's assesment was far more accurate. Pearce is the organiser at the Roosters

Jason Maher is right. Anasta has been second fiddle to Pearce all year.

I choose to disagree, i don't think Pearcey is a proper organiser and i still reckon Anasta calls the shots for most 5th tackle options(except when roosters are in the opp 20).
Maybe i just don't get the roosters game but just from what i see, it doesn't seem as if Pearce does much of the organising.

This is the f**king problem with NSW: we are riven with interclub rivalries, and I would have to presume some of that is present among the players (just hopefully not as much as amongst our fans). Queensland's success is built on loyalty and everyone - fan, player, and coaching staff alike - pulling in one direction. Until NSW fans, players, administrators, selectors, and coaches alike can put aside all the bullsh*t and pull in one direction, we will always be the second class citizens of Origin. Our lone advantage is a much bigger playing pool to pick from, which means that periodically we have the better talent to pick from, and we win on that basis.

I mean, have you EVER seen a Queensland fan deathride any of their own players because they don't like them (or their club)? Even if they think the players selected are sh*t, they still back them to step up, and almost inevitably, the players do. And every single Queensland player knows that the whole state is behind them, because they grow up in that culture (well, all except Inglis :p). The Blues players grow up in our culture of carping, bitching and moaning. Is it any surprise so many of them fail to step up? Imagine how blokes like Michael Weyman or Brett Morris, or even Brett White, would go if they were Queenslanders...

And a lot more disliked Hunt at the time.

It really was Broncos fans vs. the World when it came to Hunt and Origin in 2007.

Food for thought - this how tough it will be for NSW to develop halfbacks -

Cows - Thurston (Qld)
Storm - Cronk (Qld)
Tits - Prince (Qld)
Wariors - Seymour (Qld)
Bunnies - Sandow (Qld)
Canberra - Mogg (Qld - lol)
Cronulla - Smith (Qld)
Tigers - Lui (Qld - according to QRL.com.au)

Half the clubs in the NRL are using Queenslanders for the job - then throw in;

Illawarra - Hornby (retired)
Doggies - Kimmorley (should be retired)

It only leaves 6 clubs to possibly have a NSW halfback choose from.

Of those -

Broncs - Wallace (not set origin world on fire/fail)
Newcastle - Mullen (ditto )
Chooks - Pearce (not setting origin world on fire but getting better - slowly)

Eels - Mortimer - (Out of form)
Panthers - Walsh (potential for sure)
Seagles - Hodkinson (just a kid)

Hodko is older than Pearce.

But in terms of first grade experience I get what you mean.

I just cannot fathom expansion ideas when someone like Mogg is running around as a halfback.

Its not a novel situation either - Lewis and Summat had to pretend to be halfbacks before Luke Walsh came down.

Cronk really is the million dollar man from the Storm firesale.
