Obviously it won't happen, but it would be good to see. Qld can pick whoever they want, from PNG, NZ to NSW.
DESPERATE NSW selectors have inquired about picking Parramatta's blockbusting front-rower and cult hero Fuifui Moimoi for Origin III. And the Eels enforcer - who has previously represented New Zealand and Tonga - says he'd love nothing more than a confrontation with the Queensland pack, declaring last night: "I'll play if they pick me - I'd love to have a run."
But the Australian Rugby League is set to torpedo the idea, even allowing for the fact Queensland have picked Tonie Carroll after he played for the Kiwis and Adrian Lam after he turned out for Papua New Guinea in Test football. Further pushing Moimoi's claims is the revelation he became an Australian citizen three weeks ago.
ARL chief executive Geoff Carr was approached by Blues selectors over the weekend about the possibility of Moimoi playing for NSW on July 7.
The Daily Telegraph understands inquiries were also made about the eligibility of Newcastle's flying Fijian winger Akuila Uate, indicating how desperate Blues selectors are to find the talent to match the greatest Queensland team ever.
Carr said he was almost certain the ARL board would not approve the selection of either player.
"I've checked it out and NSW couldn't pick them because Fuifui played for New Zealand in the Four Nations last year and Uate played for Fiji in the Pacific Cup," Carr said.
"They have to have not played for another country for two years before they can play Origin.
"The ARL has to preserve the integrity of the international game. We can't destroy one to fix the other. Players can't just pick and choose whenever it suits."
This is the same ARL that continues to overlook the ludicrous and farcical situation of Queensland picking Macksville born and raised Greg Inglis, who played his first senior football in NSW.
"Let's not go there," Carr said, when pressed about the double standards of Inglis, Carroll and Lam all being allowed to wear the Maroons jersey when they clearly should not have.
Moimoi was born in Tonga and played his first senior football in Australia for South Sydney.
