DESPERATE NSW selectors have inquired about picking Parramatta's blockbusting front-rower and cult hero Fuifui Moimoi for Origin III. And the Eels enforcer - who has previously represented New Zealand and Tonga - says he'd love nothing more than a confrontation with the Queensland pack, declaring last night: "I'll play if they pick me - I'd love to have a run."

But the Australian Rugby League is set to torpedo the idea, even allowing for the fact Queensland have picked Tonie Carroll after he played for the Kiwis and Adrian Lam after he turned out for Papua New Guinea in Test football. Further pushing Moimoi's claims is the revelation he became an Australian citizen three weeks ago.

ARL chief executive Geoff Carr was approached by Blues selectors over the weekend about the possibility of Moimoi playing for NSW on July 7.

The Daily Telegraph understands inquiries were also made about the eligibility of Newcastle's flying Fijian winger Akuila Uate, indicating how desperate Blues selectors are to find the talent to match the greatest Queensland team ever.

Carr said he was almost certain the ARL board would not approve the selection of either player.

"I've checked it out and NSW couldn't pick them because Fuifui played for New Zealand in the Four Nations last year and Uate played for Fiji in the Pacific Cup," Carr said.

"They have to have not played for another country for two years before they can play Origin.

"The ARL has to preserve the integrity of the international game. We can't destroy one to fix the other. Players can't just pick and choose whenever it suits."

This is the same ARL that continues to overlook the ludicrous and farcical situation of Queensland picking Macksville born and raised Greg Inglis, who played his first senior football in NSW.

"Let's not go there," Carr said, when pressed about the double standards of Inglis, Carroll and Lam all being allowed to wear the Maroons jersey when they clearly should not have.

Moimoi was born in Tonga and played his first senior football in Australia for South Sydney.

Obviously it won't happen, but it would be good to see. Qld can pick whoever they want, from PNG, NZ to NSW.

Yeah read this article in the Origin forum. It's pretty sad that the selectors are that desperate they're going to these lengths... Doesn't seem like they have much faith in the players they currently have to select from. They should just go for Mannah and Snowden as our starting props. They're going to be the core of the Blues side in a couple of years so may as well blood them both in a dead rubber just to give them the initial experience.

picking overseas players only works for Qld for some unknown reason

Didn't they have the chance to tell Moi Moi they'd pick him 3 seasons ago (before he represented NZ) - he would then declare his eligibility for NSW/Aus.

In all their wisdom they opted for White instead....

I think Mateo was in the same boat (but Tonga and not NZ).

Origin has become a joke anyway, might as well pick Fui, Burgess, Benji and Ellis for NSW in game 3. Why not Qld have had Kiwis and PNG players play for them, they had one in game 2 from PNG in Costigan.

Just goes to show how clueless our selectors are - they don't even know the eligibility rules.

but who does? .... they seem very flexible at times, particularly when Qld is in need ... if Qld had lost 5 straight series, you could bet Usain Bolt, Mike Tyson, Hulk Hogan and Barak Obama would somehow qualify as banana benders

Why not pick him, he's good enough. In fact lets pick Isaac Luke, Benji Marshall, Sam Burgess, Gareth Ellis.

This would be a good team:

1. Hayne
2. Morris
3. Jennings
4. Tahu
5. Uate
6. Barrett
7. Marshall
8. Moimoi
9. Luke
10. Cayless
11. Ellis
12. Burgess
13. Hindmarsh

14. Lewis
15. Mateo
16. Weyman
17. King

Shows you what a bunch of morons the NSWRL is, if theyre thinking of picking MoiMoi, not knowing what the rules are.

All QLD jokes aside, that's a f**king disgrace! We can assemble a very good team out of the players these clueless just won't pick...they want to try and cheapen both Origin and International rugby league to try and save their own jobs, but they won't pick the form NSW props? Can we just sack the entire organisation now and start from the ground up again? Deadset, what's wrong with;

1-Hayne
2-Morris
3-Lyon (c)
4-Jennings
5-Burt/Michael Gordon
6-Barrett/Carney/Wallace has even been playing some damn good footy
7-Pearce
8-Weyman
9-Ennis/Farah
10-Douglas
11-Hindmarsh
12-Gallen
13-Lewis

14-Snowden
15-TLL
16-Mannah
17-Poore/Watmough/Glenn Stewart/Tolman/Shane Rodney/etc etc etc

There are plenty of players to make a decent team that will play well, give QLD a shake and compete in future series...

whats gonna happens in a few years time when the majority of NRL players are from Polynesian back grounds?

Ive always said if there born in Australia or played there first football for an Australian club they should be able to play State of Origin and represent the country they were born in or the parents or grandparents were born in.
