Well, t'was indeed a sad weekend for English football with Liverpool failing to manufacture a goal in their clash with Sunderland. They were fab in general play the Reds, as good as anyone has been this season, but the bloody ball just couldn't get past the keeper, bugger it! 21 shots to nil, a quillion corners to nil, but just one point to show for it, 'tis indeed a cruel sport at times. Not to worry, it was encouraging to see Liverpool cast aside the shackles of their normally defence-fixated game to attack en masse... If they maintain this style of football they'll surely be winning a hell of a lot more than they lose for the remainder of the competition.
Arsenal are, worringly, back in fine fettle and disposed of a battling ten man Tottenham outfit with a minimum of effort. I must say that the red card for Davies was little short of a disgrace and it was a relief to hear that the FA has rescinded it. There's no doubting that the Gunners are the most attractive side to watch in the comp and it is difficult to see them being headed from here.
Oh well, at least the much loathed Manny U couldn't manufacture a win this time around either. As it turns out a point is more than they deserved against West Ham, but the Red Devils have always had more than their fair share of good fortune. Could there possibly be two more irritating players in the game than Van Nistleroy and Solksjaer??? Surely not, but at least it is highly unlikely that they'll be appreciating any silverware this season.
I spoke last week about the current 'Blue' upsurge that is occurring in the EPL and sure enough it continued on unabated with Everton and Chelsea continuing on their merry ways. Neither side is a genuine premiership threat, but both should have their eyes on the prize that is a Champions League spot, particularly with the much loathed Manny U beginning to look quite vulnerable.
The less said about Leeds the better, methinks.
Shocking week for the Anfield faithful, lets set things right this weekend...
