Seeing Willie meet the Jets got me wondering about other league players who could be NFL players if they had of went that way.

Heres my top 5

1. Greg Inglis - No-brainer as a WR, his athleticism is world-class, has great hands and speed to burn.

2. Sonny -Bill - Could either be a TE or LB, like Inglis athleticsm ,despite the injuries, is world-class.

3. Matt Utai - Might suprise some but I think in another life he'll come back as a running-back. With his stature and agility would easily find holes in any D-Line.

4. Matt King - TE. Has good hands, good size and good speed. Similar to Jeremy Shockey.

5. Billy Slater - KR/PR and would also make a nice slot-receiver ala Brandon Stokley.

PS. Isnt it funny how league players are considered for actuall skill postions and AFL players can only aspire to be punters. Says it all really.

Who do you think could make it.

Can I just ask what you mean by world class, athletically? Does that mean Inglis could win a gold medal in the 100m olympics? Alot of the football players in college also run track, and it wouldn't surprise me if most of them had better measurables than Inglis.

Gasnier would go alright at RB, he has vision and pace. Hindmarsh somewhere in the linebackers as he sticks to runners like Glue.

I'd love to see what some of their players could do in the NRL, someone like Vernon Davis would be freakish.

I don't even know anything about the positions, but I reckon whatever position you are touting Mason for, Manu Vatuvei would be worth a look (yes, I know he is a much-maligned player in some ways). Manu is a naturally bigger build than Willie and I reckon he could play at 260lbs+, and he is faster than Willie, probably runs about 4.5 for the 40yards with room for improvement, so yeah- he's like a faster and more athletic Mason. Jonah Lomu in his prime could do the same.

Vatuvei could play RB IMO and Hindmarsh would have made a very good linebacker. Luke O'Donnell could probably have a shot at linebacker as well.

Utai is probably a little too short for RB but he has the right sort of build.

Macdougall would have made an excellent RB or FB when he was younger and injury free.

Billy Slater would be better suited to cornerback due to his lack of size but incredible pace.

Phil Graham has a great stature for WR and the speed to boot.

Utai was the first person I thought of & as a RB. His size is absoloutly spot on for that position, physically he is similar to LT. But he has great centre of balance & for that reason would make an awesome middle runner.

Good call on Billy and I agree Vatuvai (as well as Francis Meli )would make good MLB.

Adam McDougall actually got alot of his moves from watching tapes of the great Barry Sanders

Your really underating how athletic GI is. At 6"4-6"5 and over 100kg and Im guessing that if Willie ran a 4.76 for 40 yards then GI would run a low 4.40 without much work on his explosiveness (so could probably go quicker) and would have 40" vertical leap which with his height would make scouts drool. Not many better athletes then that in the NFL.

Your right on Vernon Davis,4:36 40 time with a 42" vertical leap and about 110kg. Scary. He'd definatley be backrower.

Gasnier's to tall to play RB, but with his ability to change direction would make a good TE or power WR though

Asotasi, with proper training, could make a good DE in my opinion. Pretty agile, pretty quick, strong and aggressive.

Nathan Hindmarsh would make a really good MLB.

Inglis would make a great HB.

And I reckon Webcke could make a decent O-Linesman.

Asotasi is too small for a DE and Webcke is way too small for an OL.

Asotasi would be a good centre IMO and would Webcke but your DE's need to be built like Willie and have explosive speed to get around the linemen.

Inglis is too tall for HB/RB. He'd be a WR and that's about it. HB's need to be able to get between the tackles and cut on a dime and while Inglis is agile, his height would make him an easy target.

Eric Grothe would make a good WR and his dad would have been a wicked RB with his low running style.

Or the other way, which NFL players could make it in League. I'll put together a squad, see if anyone else can do better:
1. Dante Hall (gone down a bit this year, but his hands under a high ball are invaluable for a fullback and his speed and explosiveness would give coaches nightmares)
2. Ladanian Tomlinson
3. Shaun Alexander
4. Larry Fitzgerald
5. Steve Smith
6. Donovan McNabb
7. Vince Young
8. Julius Peppers
9. Michael Vick (putting him here as I think using his speed and eyes down the field would be perfect for dummy half running)
10. Shawne Merriman
11. Demarcus Ware
12. Brian Urlacher
13. Antonio Gates

14. John Lynch
15. Troy Polamalu
16. Santana Moss
17. Jason Taylor

As to league players who could make it in the NFL? Grothe and Hindy are definates. Webcke could have had a spot as a goal-line/3rd and short running back. Inglis would have a chance I'd think, Matt Sing 10 or so years ago would have been fantastic and Rhys Wesser would have a small shot at a running back.

Webcke as a running back? lol Not even in a 3rd and inches situation. And Sing/Wesser would be too small. Reggie Bush is about 92kg...any smaller and i reckon a bloke would be dismissed as a RB and its only Bush's freakish skills that have got him where he is.

Devin Hester would have to be FB. Awesome returner and has just added a 94-yard punt return to his list of TD's this year.

Speaking of Punt returners, I think that would actually be Inglis' niche now I think about it more. He is a great runner at a broken field, he certainly has the speed and cutback ability for it.

Tommy, how about Maurice Jones-Drew for fullback on the league team? His returns and runs have been amazing, did you see what he did to the Colts yesterday?

I certainly heard about his performance but havent seen it...will tune in to youtube when it gets on there. But yeah from what ive read and seen he looks awesome. Has the biggest thighs ive ever seen for someone only 5-7 tall. He's sorta like the prototype Matt Utai only twice as quick.

If he was a FB and ran back to meet the defensive line you wouldnt want to be the poor buggers who have to tackle him.

He would certainly kill opposing centres.... love to see him go up against Gasnier. "He throws his body around like he has another one in the closet"

Looking at the sick state of tackling in the NFL, I think some of our former players could make it as tackling coaches.
put Trevor Gilmeister or Dave Gillespie on the Colts defensive staff and they may win a superbowl yet.
