Oh ffs...I wish they would just shut up! Maybe they should throw a game to ensure they finish second.

Roosters' plea to NRL falls on deaf ears
By Steve Mascord
August 26, 2004

Sydney Roosters officials are at odds with the NRL again - this time over a request to switch matches during week three of the finals so they can play at home.

The Roosters have pointed out that if they win the minor premiership, the Bulldogs finish second and both win their opening finals match, they would be playing at each other's home grounds on the weekend of September 25-26.

The Belmore side would play at Aussie Stadium on a Saturday night and the Roosters would be at Telstra Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

"All we've done is raise it," Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan said last night. "Financially, logistically, we would love to have it at Aussie Stadium for our fans, etc, and the same would probably apply to the Bulldogs."

Bulldogs chief executive Malcolm Noad said he hadn't given the matter any thought, insisting: "We are just concentrating on the week ahead."

The Roosters are already on the wrong side of the league over their refusal to sign the collective bargaining agreement and their insistence that their players should get salary-cap concessions for the cost of living in the Eastern Suburbs.

NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said the Roosters' request was unlikely to be successful. "Apart from week one of the finals where teams earn their right to a home final, all games after that are neutral," Annesley said.

"If we were to manipulate the matches so two teams receive home games, I would imagine there would be uproar from the clubs that they are playing on those particular days.

"That would be giving them [the Bulldogs and Roosters] an advantage that they are not entitled to. We would probably prefer it was the other way around, because it could potentially increase the crowds at both venues, but we have to be fair to all teams."

How ridiculous! The Roosters couldnt fill a Mc Donalds car park, so why should they get their game moved to an 80,000 seat stadium!

PB, read the article again. The NRL isn't moving their game, it's the Roosters who want the game moved to their homeground, against the already established schedule.

If the Roosters finish 1st and win their week 1 game, they'll play at Telstra Stadium, Dogs ground. If Dogs finish second and win their week 1 game, they'll play at Aussie Stadium, Roosters ground. Canavan wants this switched so they can play at home.

They are not assured of wins and ladder position may change in two weeks time. This is a case of Roosters CEO wanting to get his way again over the NRL. This will not have come up if the top two teams were say Tigers and Canberra.

If it was OK for the Broncos in the 90's against us, then its ok now!!! But then again the NRL doesnt have shares in the Roosters does it?

You beat me to it Melon. I rememebr it all to well. 1st semi in Melbourne, we won. 2nd in Newcastle and we won. 3rd to be at SFS but the Bronco's suddenly lost to Parramatta in an upset which saw 2 sydney teams playing in Brisbane and Brisbane playing in Sydney. So they switched it.
I think it was in 1998.

Now the Roosters bring it up and every has a whinge FFS.

Which match or matches are you talking about?

Different cities. How many Brisbanites would go and watch two sydney teams play in Brisbane? Aussie and Telstra Stadiums are both in Sydney and it would be very fickle for the supporters to not turn up. It's not hard for Roosters supporters to take the train/bus to Homebush from the city and vice versa for Dogs supporters to Aussie Stadium.

This was back before the McIntyre system when teams 1 and 2 got the first week off and 10 teams made the semis.

We now have the McIntyre system and an 8 team final series
