- The board have made an enormously risky play. Mace is a gambler and has been successful in business utilising that style and is trying to pull it off here. This to me reeks of selling your nice house and then hoping you can settle on a waterfront *if you land that promotion and *if you get that inheritance and *if you get the predicted stock bounce and *if the market behaves as you predict. It may all look likely but there’s a million different ways you end up with a worse house than you started with.
- The Kareela deal was all Richard Munro. They sacked him too don't forget.
- Bomber was eminently unqualified for the job given his lower grades results. There was another guy on staff more qualified.
- Despite this, he didn’t get a single game that wasn’t tainted by Flanagan’s shit late career arrogant signings or his salary cap penalties. There was a time they needed dispensation to play Royce Hunt as the club had exhausted its cap with players being paid bare minimum. Case in point- Capewell would have stayed for $125k if they had it to offer him. No other coach had to deal with that except the poor bastards at the Dogs and look at them.
- It was this board that re-jigged the development deal and drove it underground. Who knows how it will turn out and who knows if the club will ever play at Woolooware ever again? The NRL have the shits with the sharks about all the churn in CEO and head coach roles. Notice how PVL never talks about them?
- Was getting Fitzy worth blowing up this season? It was a crazy move. People are saying “oh coming 8th isn’t good enough” and yeah I get you but do you know how hard it is to jump from 14th and below into the 8 in this iteration of the NRL? Bloody hard. Is the damage worth it?

My 2 cents.

Only relaying from what I heard directly from the then CEO Richard Munro (Dino was chairman at the time). He even showed me the slide from the NRL meeting.
This is direct, insider info. Your choice to laugh at it.
Slide or no slide I assume he is laughing at the actual accusation... churn?

We had Flanno since Ricky in 2010... Bomber since Flanno... so 3 appointed in 11 years? Excluding the suspension stand ins.

The tigers are still paying 3

It was more about the CEOs and Chairmans but the NRL had a theory that the worst performing clubs had the most turnover in those positions. When you combined CEO, chairman and head coach THEY were the worst tied with one other club (can’t remember who Tigers or Titans) so THEIR apparent stability at head coach* was offset by revolving door in the C level offices.

Do not be fooled into thinking the NRL like THEM. THEYVE been lumped in with problem children the Tigers and Manly. THEY’RE probably on top of that pile but the Sharks are in there. Nothing new really.

*edit. Now that I think about it they definitely counted interims like Sharpe.

Have the NRL or any other governing body ever liked us.
We are a blight on the comp.
Headline after headline.
Matt johns. Brett seymour. Toddy. Birdy. Gal. Tevita Latu. Flanno. The list goes on....
It broke many hearts when we won it in '16.
We never go away.
Weve had the last rights many times but rise up again and again to be successful.
Why would we change now.

Vlandys doesnt talk about us?
The Prime minister does.

We’ve made the finals 2012,2013,2015,2016,2017,2018,2019,2020.
Not a shabby record for a bad performing club. In that time only the Storm and Roosters have performed better.
The NRL must consider every other team, bar those two of course, as also bad performing.

Who gives a f**k what they think? We’re clearly in the nrl plans for a conference system, it’s not like they are actively trying to punt us (like they have in the past).

There is a fair bit of personal experience in FD posts, and I’m sure his intention is to just tell his story and not influence how we should perceive the club. So I will do just that and go about my day.

Frank's info is no doubt correct. Whilst the NRL coach position has been relatively stable (apart from the suspension years), the CEO position has been a revolving door.

The NRL would have been assessing club leadership and found it wanting (among other clubs). This is not an unreasonable assessment given the record of scandals. This is why the recent uptick in financial performance is so important.

It is far better for the club to seen as well run. The current leadership needs to project competence and show results.

Frank is a good mate of mine, and he would not put this up if it didn't have truth in it.
My own post was directed at the NRL itself and its interpretations of what constitutes a "bad performing club".
Ours may have had some inner office issues but at the same time on the field they have been very competitive up until the last couple of years, but yet still made the finals.
What does that say about the other shambles of clubs, and the NRL's opinion of them.
Do the NRL constitute having The Storm or Roosters winning the last 4 GF's as a successful competition??

They would use those two teams as bench marks for every other club, something that our management itself has said that it is trying to bring that standard up to, yet gets vilified for their efforts.

man i cant wait for the conference system.

itll be 18 teams, 9 in sydney, then a few years later the eels, the souths the roosters will be in the national conference and the mud hill conference of sharks , dragons, etc will be cast aside into NSW cup.
