Ok so we can hold outlandish expectations for Morris, but when it comes to the new guy we need to act sensible.

ok fair enough. Makes sense.
.
JM KPIs would have been similar.

I reckon beating a top 8 side once in 18 months was one of them. Top 4 too probably.

X X out.

Agree to disagree on pretty much everything QS. Will leave this one to play out in real life.

The Board's job is provide leadership, governance and the conditions for management to run the club. Sharks boards have been typically poor performing (with a few exceptions) hence why the club is nearly always broke.

The Board and Management provide the resources to run a competitive football program. The Commercial and the Football departments both need to be working in order to have a successful club.

At present, the club is in it's best financial position in ages. Sponsorship is sold out for the first time in living memory. The Kareela deal appears to have been successful and the redeveloped club/retail should also provide a further income stream. This is indication that the Board and Management are getting their act together. It's not enough for the Board and Management to say we want to be a consistent top 4 team without providing those resources. That is just wishful thinking.

In regards to the Head Coach position, they are clearly of the view that Morris was not the person they needed to make that happen. It is now up the Board and Management to ensure Fitzgibbon has the necessary resources (without compromising financial targets) to deliver a consistently successful football program.

Personally, I think they made the right call even though that is very tough on Morris. He inherited a mess and did not have the resources to build a strong enough squad. However, life and business are not fair and the call was made. I am keen to see how this plays out.

Morris had strengths at developing young players. He wasn’t a winner. As a player or a coach.

A journeyman who could do a job and fit into any system. But what did he win?

As a coach he had 20s teams that dominated the normal season. Smashing records left right and centre. How were the finals results, Striaght sets on more than one occasion.

I’m sure he is a great bloke and players want to play for him. Was that more due to the personality and lack of accountability or because he was able to squeeze the lemon and get players across the line when it mattered.

For me, if you aren’t first, you are last. Making the 8 in a 16 team comp is not an achievement. Sure it’s the fault of the comp structure, but winning more than you lose and being in th top 4 every week is what’s wanted.

Players should be looking at the draw each year and saying shit, we have the storm Sharks and Penrith back to back to back. Now they see it as an easy game between 2 top teams.

I’m on the Fitz and board train. I want a winning football side to go with the winning board.
Great post - you can’t argue with any of your post as it’s the cold hard facts - don’t know how many times it has been whilst he is a hard working top bloke, he’s the same guy also part of signing Chad on the most extraordinary deal of a lifetime and celebrated it in the media.
That to me says a lot. Accept mediocrity and what do you get?

Is that the same deal that wasn’t worthwhile for Chad to continue with?? The one that was just completely blown out of the water by an offer from a competitor?

Perhaps it wasn’t as favourable towards Chad as some would have you believe.

I’m not sure exactly who you wanted him to sign with his salary cap position.

Oh and by the way, giving this board credit for the position we are in with regards to the property development money is a bit of a laugh.

I’m cool with the board. I get the decisions they’re making and it is on the back of trying to lift us to the next level consistently.

I will say the numpty brigade, casual sharks fan, are up in arms. I’ve had a few bbq discussions...and they’ve started a off about how shit it all is. Then when you explain it out they kinda come around.

Strange you're still bringing this up when it's become clear in the last week the deal was

a) a paycut for Chad and
b) only a one year option with the second year in our favour.

It was clearly not enough money for Chad to activate. And if he did activate it we'd be getting a halfback on a pretty good value deal. So I'd say the deal wasn't that bad after all.

Either way I don't think this deal was all Bomber anyway, it would have been signed off by others.

Or maybe they just aren’t exposed to the incessant groupthink in here and can see that it stinks.

Nope that’s not it. Casuals don’t bother signing up to forums to understand the details. Instead they just add a sharks page on Facebook and read the news which is heavily agenda driven. The result is the wave of people getting on the bandwagon rather than stopping to think for themselves.

The first post suggesting we aren’t all on the same side of the fence. I love it.

I want results fast too but I’ve also seen us sit and wait and wait and wait rather than go after something. These turnarounds take time. It’s my opinion Morris didn’t have it in him to get us there even in 5 years. We will never know.

What I do know is that Fitz has the pedigree to make it work. Time will tell if that’s true.

It’s exciting regardless.

I favour the end game myself. What's wrong at the Sharks can't be changed by an interim coach who clearly didn't have support of the players last game.

Makes them look like fools, not the coach.

Kindergarten behaviour.

It's not really the boards fault with the timing of signing CF, that's how it is in the NRL.
I'm with the board because you can see the place is slowly losing it's winning culture from 2016. I don't think Morris was the one to stop the rot.
Also a lot of new contracts to deal with and again I don't think Morris was the man.
I'm more excited about Fitz signing and anyone with a clue should be as well.

I agree and I think the signs were evident in 2017. Almost like, we've won one, that's enough. Not the thinking that is apparent at the elite clubs.

The way the club has been swallowed into the sea of mediocrity over the 5 years is alarming and why change has to be now.

The board seems to want success and are willing to act to get that success. A marked improvement on our usual attitude which would have seen Morris rewarded with a new contract. I’m all for it. Be ruthless. Nice guys finish last as they sat.

Yes, we have too much ruth :)

Couldn’t be f**ked reading the thread so apologies if this has been covered..... Happy to put some faith in the board considering the goals they’ve been kicking off the field. We were stagnant with Lessgo steering the ship and plenty of overpaid pensioners backing him up. As soon as we re-sign sign Toby and WK and the Bunny joins the fray the doubters will stfu. Any less than 2 out of those 3 signing will be seen as a fail. In Dino we trust.
