Eels grant Mortimer release
Written by: Parramatta Eels Media

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels today wish to advise Daniel Mortimer has been granted a release from his contract with the Club to join the Sydney Roosters.

Eels Chairman, Mr Roy Spagnolo OAM, today paid tribute to the 22-year-old's contribution to the Club since joining the Eels in 2007.

“Daniel has been a terrific member of our Club and everyone here has an enormous respect for him,” Spagnolo said.

“It's obviously been a tough period for him over the past season but he's shown his class throughout.

“Although he had a couple of players ahead of him for a spot this year, he continued to work hard on and off the field and his positive attitude in doing so is a credit to him and his upbringing.

“We're proud of what he's achieved with the Eels and we wish him all the best at the Roosters.”

Mortimer represented the Eels in the SG Ball Cup competition in 2007 before graduating to the Toyota Cup side in 2008, and made his NRL debut in Round 12, 2009.

He will join the Roosters upon approval of the transfer by the NRL salary cap auditor.

Sounds like there has been some wheeling and dealing...

Who knows. According to Stagger who posted about this in the rumours thread the other day we'll still be paying the bulk of his contract for next season.

Well the NRL doesn't let you get away with less than half I think? Still better than paying the lot, and who knows about 2013.
