Hardest game I've ever played? Let's just say the s**t below is enough to cover 2 titles, not just itself!

Good shout with TMNT.... that swimming level took so so much skill and a bit of luck

I am actually struggling a bit with the Witcher 2 at the moment... highest difficulty level and its kicking my arse HARD. Trying to fight Letho the first time and I seriously dont survive 30 seconds.

That's probably what I liked so much about the Master System - the games, while challenging, were not impossibly frustrating. Some where when you first play them, but you learn how to do it with time. Operation Wolf however, is a game you can completely forget trying to play with a control pad... if you didn't have a Light Phaser, don't bother.

 how???

i remember people were making up shit about cheats and being able to go through doors (which were just part of the background), but it made alot people waste time trying to do it

That's a stretch of the memory. I played it on PC and there was a word or something that you typed to activate it.

Found a gameplay vid of it on youtube. The level is 6:38 in. I'm twitching just watching it lol.

ohhh ok. yeah i played it on the first nintendo. it would have been 1989... i was 9 years old that year. they used to have the game in the stores on a tv and people would be able to play it there. i was watching people play it and everyone was dying in the swimming part and they couldnt believe a 9 year old got past it.

... and thanks for the link. Watching the walk-thru of the game brings back memories. Good, but frustrating memories. It makes me feel like going to one of those game stores where you can buy old consoles and games, so I can play it again. It's been around 2 and a half decades. Maybe I will... :)

I remember Alex The Kidd In Miracle World being pretty tough on the Master System. One hit and you're gone.

Alex the Kidd was brutal!
You would always dread that slightly longer pause after dying because you knew it was game over.

One game that I got regularly owned by was Spiderman vs the Kingpin on Master System.

Beating the Lizard was hard enough... then they throw you in a ridiculous pit to recover a key to advance further. Then came the electro level, I didn't get through even ten paces.... this was only level three! I ended up emulating it many years later, turns out I only ever got to about halfway through the game the old school way

Ah good times...

f**king alex kidd. That damn jungle level negotiating all those spikes trying to jump onto the tiniest bits of grass to avoid the spikes was heart attack material. And the god damn second castle that was a puzzle as well and you had to go through the rooms in a certain order.

I recently plays alex kidd on Xbox 360, however you could have unlimited lives. Took me over 2 hours to finish it.

Of newer gen games, I found halo 2 on legendary extremely hard and couldn't beat it. Although I could quite easily get through the original halo on legendary.

Oh those damn castles... the worst part was that if you missed certain items in the first one you're screwed for the rest of the game but you won't know it until much later. Pure evil.

Alex Kidd is the hardest game I ever finished. I say "I", but it was really my brother and me taking turns life for life as we went. We got up to the final boss with no lives left and lost the rock scissors paper match once. Meanwhile even though we were very competent at the game our master system had a serious overheating issue to the point that after a couple hours game play we had to put it up on 4 cups to get it off the table and have a fan blowing on it at all times

If you want to get really frustrated, there is a walkthrough on youtube where the bloke finishes it in about 15 minutes

That game is so easy... it shouldn't take you more than 30 mins - and that's doing it properly. I can do that spikes stage for instance in 30 seconds - using the bike.

Yeah but you don't need the letter, and therefore the slab with the codes on them if you remember them correctly for the last stage.
From memory...

Sun, wave, moon, star
Sun, moon, wave
Fish, star, fish = crown :D

World of Longplays (YouTube user) plays the full thing in about 40 mins which includes an alternate way to finish the game. It's really not that long...

How is that possible?

Dark Souls 2 DLC, the new one, has some really tough bosses. Tried beating the final boss 15 times and he one shots me with that f**king sword every single time.

I'm thinking tough arcade games where if you could play for 2 minutes you were doing well. 20 cents a game as well.

Defender
Crazy Climber
Qix
Rally-X
Missile Command

Just bloody hard.
