Ever find that ? You watch a movie, even if its crap, but in the background there is this really cool song wanting to break free of the crapness of the movie. Or even if the movie is good, there is always a cool song there somewhere that really highlights the movie.

Anyone ever seen The Mothman Prophecies ? A Few years old now ... i kept getting taken away by this tune in the background of that movie. So much so, i even made sure i wrote down the name of the song. Since i couldnt be sure who it was, i wrote them ALL down.

Never ever in my life have i heard of any band called Tomandandy, but gee they wrote a song that nagged into my brain until i must share it with someone :)

This is from the movie i mentioned, but it took a fair bit to actually get the song itself

Listen to it, and tell me if you can nominate a similar song that got to you as well from a movie you saw :)

Another great example of this peculiar phenomenem came from Quentin Tarantino's vampire Epic From Dusk Til Dawn. Remember that scene where Salma Hayek did that awesome snake dance ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaoE1GDoYjE&search=salma hayek from dusk til dawn

Well it took me aaaaaages to find that song playing in the background. Who the hell would know it came from a band called Tito and Tarantula ? Only the inquisitive are rewarded :)

Here is a great version of that song too if you want to download it.

So can you guys nominate others that you wish to share ??

p.s. someone take me to the Titty Twister

OVP, I saw Mothman Prophecies at the flicks too, and the soundtrack was friggin' awesome!
That song 'half-light' which it ends with absolutely blew me away.
Tomandandy did most of the sndtrk (as far as I know) but that particular track was a collaborative effort with 'Low', a married couple act out of minnesota (I think they're mormons or something). I think they toured her earlier in the year or late last year.
Anyway the woman's voice is really dreamy, and before the end credits were even finished, I was commiting the sndtrk details to memory. I loved the film, and bought the dvd as soon as it came out!

The soundtrack has a single version of that track as well, which I'm sure you would love as well if you haven't already heard it! different vocal track as well as being a bit faster.

There is a song in the movie "The Beach" called "Touched" by VAST. When I first heard it I had no idea what it was. A few weeks after seeing The Beach a friend gave me a copy of the VAST CD and that song was on it.

Phenomenal song and CD.

VAST - the second cd - Music For People - is pretty good too. Not as good as Visual Audio Sensory Theatre, but well worth a listen.

BTW - VAST is just one guy, Jon Crosby!

I find that alot of movies which have soundtracks that don't feature original artists performing original songs are often very good. Some example sof this include Eraserhead, Dead Man (Amazing soundtrack performed by Neil Young) and anything which features Bernard Harmman.

The Batman Forever soundtrack has some great little gems on it, including the brilliant Michael Hutchence covering an Iggy Pop song - The Passenger.

Also on it are, Seal, U2, Flaming Lips, Method Man

If you like David Bowie, then you'll love the soundtrack, plus it also has a scene with Devo's 'Gut Feeling' which rawks!!!

Top Gun's soundtrack was awesome, although there were some shockers there as filler, like Kenny Loggin's 'playin' with the boys', (think the overtly gay beach volleyball scene.)
In general it was very good. The way the movie starts with the carrier deck crews running around, the music slowly builds up as the F-14 is attached to the catapult, you see the engines start spooling up, the jet nozzles flare out and just as the jet is launched, Highway to the dangerzone' starts playing, which is extra special cos' it is Kenny's only good song! :D

The two songs on the end of Reign of Fire, Burn and Walk Away by Mad at Gravity, are awesome. As is the end credits song from The Core, Echelon by 30 Seconds to Mars...

Tarantino is a genius at this.
His movies have awesome soundtracks.

He made dick dale famous ..again.

I love the Hearts in Atlantis sound track.

Also La Bamba has an instrumental in it called sleepwalking by Santo and Johnny.

I had a song from Lock stock and 2 smoking Barrells as the bridal waltz at my wedding.
It was called "Spooky" by Dusty Sprinfield.

watch the clip

Satriani has a version of Sleepwalking, pretty good, though not as good as Santo and Johnny's in my opinion.

Satriani's has an almost techno feel to it.

* EDIT *: Song is actually called Sleep Walk
