Im just wondering what movies scared people on here when they were young?

Because last night i put a few childhood demons to rest by watching It, which used to terrorise me as a child lol

That clown seriously traumatised me. I suppose i was too young at like 6 years old to watch it.

The other one that scared me...it had me crying in my room when i was like 4 or 5 was the Blob.

Who would have thought a blob could be so scary!

So anyway what scared you and gave you nightmares when you were young?

Tremors by far was the most scary movie ever as a kid.

I was too scared to walk on the grass for weeks after that movie for fear that a giant worm might suck me under

Ghostbusters.

The "library ghost" in one of the first scenes f*cked me well and truly up.

That was so bad it was almost funny.

"The Exorcist" scared the crap out of me as a kid. I grew up a Catholic and was just giving it the flick when this one came out. Helped add a bit of oomph to the scare factor. Watched the Director's Cut a few years ago and that scene with Linda Blair crawling about like a spider is seriously freaky too.

Honourable mentions go to:
- "Nosferatu", an oldie (1922) but a goodie. Max Schreck is arguably one of the scariest characters in film history. The best vampire movie of all time for mine;
- "Alien", the first one and I think the best. Very atmospheric and a fine example of less is more (in terms of seeing the alien). And who can forget the breakfast scene on the Nostromo;
- "The Omen", the original (1976) when Gregory Peck and Lee Remick give birth to the Antichrist. I've been wary of crows/ravens ever since;
- "Satan's Skin", also called 'Blood on Satan's Claw'. A bunch of school girls have a strange birthmark and they die horribly at the hands of a bunch of teenagers controlled by Satan. The birthmark is hairy and you can probably guess the rest from the title;
- "The Blair Witch Project", if you go out in the woods tonight, you better not go alone. Or in threes, and not go looking for a witch. Brilliant concept and I loved the camera work;
- "It", clowns are evil and Pennywise is about as evil as they come. I used to explore a lot of the stormwater drains in the Sutherland Shire as a kid. If I had seen this before that time, I daresay I would have stayed at home;
- "The Shining", another Stephen King novel translated to the big screen. Jack Nicholson's descent into madness is brilliant. A classic.

Last but not least:

"Psycho", yes it is black and white, but Anthony Perkins plays the evil mama's boy very well. Hitchcock knew that it is the quiet ones that you have to watch and who will ever forget Janet Leigh's shower scene. The modern slash fest directors could learn a thing or two about frightening people from this.
