What do you mean?

I was just saying, by my way thinking, the teams you mentioned Nth Qld, Broncos, Warriors should be in the U20's next year.

What other point is there?

just see my post above yours, I'm assuming you like the idea...

Actually CS I'll ask you sn easier question so we can both be on the same wave length, are you for the concept or against it??

At this stage Yes. But we don't have the fine prints yet so there is some sceptism which remains behind it.

Also, Im hoping this will be played in conjuction with first grade fixtures. Imagine having to go to 2 venues to follow 2 grades, and to make it even worse, have to fork out money to get in the gate. Hopefully it wont come to that!

I think I remember that that was part of the concept that Denis Presented to the Football Club AGM. Same day before the Telstra Premiership Fixture.

It sets up the ridiculous situation if we win Premier League this year and we nominate a junior club to take our place that the three time defending champs don't have a team.

Also, I would like to know what is going to happen on game day?
Surely the other club is not going to want to play home games out of Parramatta Stadium, they will want to play at their home grounds. This means only two grades.

Yep if we go down that path, that is about the long and the short of the situation we face at the moment, but again nothing is confirmed.

Love your work Fitzy :D

2 games for the price of 3!

Seriously though, I would be suprised if had a situation where Cabramatta or Mounties played before first grade. Surely there will be a Parra reserve grade outfit competing.

St Marys hardly have their home games at Penrith...they have a few but the generally play at St marys I believe.

If that is the case with us, then we'll be getting ripped off. I hope not anyway.

The deal between Panthers/St Marys ceased last year or the year before I think, but yes, most of their games were at Western Weekender - Flegg and First Grade generally played at Penrith.

it'll probably be the case with every NRL club, not just Parra.

Let's just see what happens.

so we will never ever get to see our 5 teams win all grades on the same day again

sorry for being cynical, but how is this a step forward ?

THE NRL's national under-20 competition was launched yesterday with a stern message to rugby union: start developing your own kids.

Known as the Toyota Cup, the competition will start next season and be the main preliminary game to NRL matches each weekend.
The Toyota Cup will mirror the NRL each week yet operate separately as a semi-professional competition.

It will have its own, yet to be finalised, salary cap.

Clubs will be required to schedule training sessions around off-field education programs and traineeships.

Training will not be organised during business hours on three working days of each week.

A percentage of the competition's salary cap will be dedicated to education funding.

Negotiations will continue to have the competition shown on Fox Sports.

[Parramatta Eels chief executive Denis Fitzgerald, the brains behind the competition, said the Toyota Cup would ensure more young players stayed in rugby league.

"This competition will give us a springboard, not only to retain our elite talent, but should prove a great attraction to the top athletes in other codes," Fitzgerald said.

"Other codes like rugby union will not be able to match rugby league for a national and elite youth competition.

"So they will now have to develop their own talent."[

The Toyota Cup was four years in the planning, with Fitzgerald helped on a sub-committee by St George Illawarra boss Peter Doust, Sydney Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan, Wests Tigers chief executive Steve Noyce and Cronulla chief executive Greg Pierce.

The Premier League competition will remain for players over the age of 20 and unable to make NRL squads.

The schoolboy Arrive Alive Cup competition will also survive.

Every team will have a designated welfare officer who will accompany the team on away trips

94 posts and no one gives Fitzy any credit for starting this comp up. It will be one of the best things the nrl has done. Fitzy is on a mission as he knows we have the best crop of youngsters of any club and the best that have all come through at the same time. If he can manage to keep the majority together at our club he needs a huge pat on the back. He is the hardest working administrator in the game.
