Anthony Mundine named one of the world's most overrated athletes
He normally takes any publicity he can get, but Anthony Mundine might want to keep clear of this one after being named one of the most over-rated athletes to earn a ridiculous amount of money.
USA Today published a list this week of the 27 global athletes who became rich despite being “really, really average.”
We’re not really sure why they went with 27 athletes instead of just rounding it out at 30 or 25, but “The Man” is safely entrenched in the top half at 12th spot.
The “not-terrible” quarterback Sam Bradford tops the list, with Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in second spot.
In fact, quarterbacks are well-represented in the top 10, with Matt Schaub, Alex Smith, Drew Bledsoe and Joe Flacco taking out spots four to seven. Harsh on Flacco we reckon. The guy won a Super Bowl.
Amar’e Stoudemire slots in at ninth before Matt Stafford, former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel and our very own Mundine.
“Who?” asks USA Today.
“Well this boxer was a big deal in Australia, so much so that it propelled his net worth to the $30 million range.”
The rest of the list is mainly populated with no-name baseballers, a golfer, another footballer or two and an NHL player.
Mundine, who last fought to a convincing stoppage loss to American Charles Hatley in Melbourne last November, doesn’t have a fight lined up at this stage, but has been called out by Brisbane-based welterweight Jeff Horn.
Horn (14-0-1) defeated Randall Bailey in April and is reportedly set to face American Jesse Vargas.
