hey i play well

i have been playing since i was 7 - 32 years!!

i can work out just about anything given a few goes and listens on the stereo

does that make my "opinion" on music superior to some tone death sex pistols fan?

does the fact i know gwen stefani cannot sing as well as sam brown make me superior in music knowledge?

i think it does

Yeah well I think it's important to have a good knowledge of music, but just one question ... what's tone death?

Is that when a band (such as Coldplay) are so bad that when you hear them you die??

Does this mean that someone with more ability than yourself is more qualified to have a musical opinion Millers? (Purely hypothetical mind you, not attempting to judge your ability)

Also, would it depend on the type of music that a muso plays? I personally play the piano and have perfect pitch (and am obviously quite up myself...) so in some ways I don't think I'm as qualified to have a fully respectable opinion on the ability of grunge or metal bands due to lack of empathy as I might be in regards to something closer to home. I do have opinions on them but they're only objective and usually based on the fact that I know a lot of professional musos have more ability (technical or otherwise) than myself thus deserve my respect.

The bloke I hate is.....

The one who just has to drag out his guitar at the party/trivia night to show off his musical ability, not even bothering to find out if I give a rat's arse that he can play Smoke on the Water on it. If he had any real ability, he wouldn't be at a party/trivia night on a Saturday night, he'd be getting paid to play somewhere. Somewhere I'm not....

So put it back in the car dimwit and stick a CD on.

millers, even if you are a competent musician it doesn't conceal the fact that you're still you. So in your case, it's a no on whether your opinion is more relevant that a Sex Pistol fan's.

I have no musical talent, apart from being able to drum Captain Zero using saucepans and spoons, yet my opinion is much more relevant than yours.

we would both declare queen far more competant musicians and better song writers

and although i recognise satriani as being infinately talented his sh*t bores me to tears and i would rather listen to noddy holder singing "we all get our kicks..playing in a rock and roll band..."

Agreed. I have a mate who does exactly that..He is very mediocre when sober.

I'll easily admit I'm a music snob when it comes to a persons ability or if band X is better than Y. Whether it be a drunk with a string tied to a box or the Rogue Traders. IMO playing guitar for ten years might give me a better perception of talent and ability than your average Joe..If so then so be it..Music instruments are available for purchase.

It doesn't mean sh*t that u can play anything or work anything out.Until you are writing music better than these people than you can criticise.
