Kylie LeuLuai wont be at Parra next year, cuz the club has failed to offer him a contract renewal, he is likely to head back to NZ and play in the Bartercard Cup

Thorman would assume the goalkicking duties when he came on, relieving Witt. I've been watching a fair bit ESL and haven't seen him miss yet!

Actually he was selected Players player - voted on by the players at the end of each game. That being said Wagon's utility value gives more options off the bench whereas the selection of Hopkins, Muspratt or Hindmarsh at lock allows another attacking option. Wagon has slowly become a more defensive player and we have lacked options in attack.

I agree with your comments on attack.

When he filling in at 5/8, Jamie Lyon never got the ball. He just won't pass the ball, which says to me he is not the ideal replacement at 5/8. I think Lee Hopkins was a better fill in 5/8.

Having said that, Wags is in the team for his defence, which is why I would have him starting at lock.

He certainly is a utility player....he was a winger when Smith brought him to Parra.

No problems there with his defence however Hopkins, Muspratt and Muckert are all above average defenders and add another dimension to the attack instead of relying on the halves for all our attack.

Wags has been a bloody good player however we need to strengthen our attack as well as our defence

Look Hopkins is a good player but?? there will be plenty of talent avaliable and the players we have brought will all have the capapbility of playing first grade......that's excluding Moi Moi of course,

It will come down to the trials.

I don't see much change, although Smith always changes his side mid year. I reckon Burt will go on the right wing, to capitalise on his left boot. Peterson will play No.2 (wingers usually swap under Smith). Rather than Burt going to fullback, I reckon he'd move Vaialiki there, and put Burt in the centres, and bring up young Grothe. Wouldn't surprise to see either Prince or McKinnon bloded on the wing, rather than fullback, either.

Dykes and Witt to play halves. Muckert 5/8 understudy. half nuderstudy is unclear. 5/8 is covered by Morris and Wagon, who can also cover centre.

Forwards the same. Wi9dders to strike of the bench. New buys Cannings, Muckert, Muspratt, Pearson and Stapelton to push from the bench ofr premier League. Injuries and possible rep duties will give them opportunities as the season wears on.

You don't rate Thorman Misty??.....or are you just waiting to see him for yourself before you make a judgement.....he's a very good player.

Im also expecting Armit to have a big impact on first grade....more so then Tsolous as i reckon Armit will be a better player then half our forward pack.....he looks the goods!!

Im also very keen to see how Stapleton goes....i too reckon he has got the potential to be alot better player...he certainly has the frame!!

Muckert as a Five Eighth? He would be twice the size of Olsen Filapaina!! I think you mean Muspratt and I wouldnt hold your breath on him being a superstar, although he is more value than Wagon

Thorman? I'm thinking Ian Sibbit and Vince Fawcett, actually.

Let him get used to the climate, the country, and the training.Let him learn NRL in Premier League, and let him(hopefully) surprise uis midyear.

IMHO Smith would be nuts to go with any 5/8 bar Dykes and Muspratt as backup in the early games.

I think the trials and pre-season will be the most tightly faught one in years. With so many players, especially in the forwards, i think its near impossible to even guess what the team will be. The promise of a new style of play only adds to the intrigue, and has got me as excited about a new season as i can remember. Now the toughest part is going to be passing the time to next March, but i'm cetain it will be worth the wait as the mighty eels regain the kind of form that took them 1 game away from the premiership in 2001. No team will match there depth in the forwards, and there is nothing more healthy than competition in the squad for starting spots. This in itself will mean a more competitive, hungary team. No one is safe, just how it should be.

A new style of play!! Are you kidding? this is Brian Smith we have coaching us. He will be delivering the same crap that he was working on with the Dragons during their 1993 Premiership Assault!! I expect him to fully grasp the concept of "Go Forward" football something during the final weeks of the end of his contract in 2006!

I still have a great deal of concern with our outside backs. Ashley Graham will miss out on pre season training and Luke Burts suspect shoulder adds to that concern. Dykes hasn't had an injury free run for years, Vaeliki has a shaky hamstring and to add to that lot Lyon will miss out on a chunk of training because of stress fractures on his back.

We also have a depth problem in the centre to cover Fresh and Killer which was why I was dissapointed about not signing Wilson, Ben McDougall, Chris Hicks or Shane Elford.

Chad Halliday won't be at the club next year.

Now THAT type of talk won't win you any friends here LOLLOL!

Brian Smith is a slow starter. Wisely, he realises that with the Macintyre system, you can use he first half of the season to fiddle with the side, retrain players etc. Sadly, however, it usually means us copping crapfootball (remember the days when Luke Burt and Ben Kusto had toput a length of the field effort and a sideline goal to defeat Manly at home????)

This year the slow start turned into a slow finish as well!!!

That's why we need a change of routine.

Good point, eelevation. I'm thinking 'blessing in disguise', as it will force Smith to tap into our talented youngsters. However, the centres are thin. You don't get anywhere in the NRLwith weak centres. An injury or suspension to either Lyon or Vaialiki would prove an almost insurmountable hurdle.

The more I thnik of it, the more I think we will revert to thye controlled stype of the early Smith years (think Kelly, Whereat, Barnes/Kidwell). While the sucess was great, the flair was zero, compared to what the latter teams could produce.

Thinkingf about it this morning, I amalmost convinced that, under any of the top 8 coaches (bar Bennet), Parra would have made the finals this year. Any takers on that one?
