I have heard so many commentators this morning going on about "accidental head clash" and this being "a contact sport".
Now regardless of weather you think this bloke intentionally leads with his head, which I do on occasions, if you knock a bloke senseless you've hit them in the head. This is illegal, any contact with the head is.
The leading with the head thing is a distraction, twice this year he has knocked people out by hitting them in the head, no matter how it comes about its illegal.
You hit a bloke who's falling with a swinging arm, you've still hit him in the head.
Now regarding McCulloch.
How could he possibly play this weekend?
He was knocked senseless, convulsing on the ground, now if he passes any of the leagues extremely lenient concussion tests is beside the point, he should not be playing.
The All Black Ryan Crotty copped a much less serious knock last week and they didn't even think of playing him.
The point of CTE is not severe concussions, it's believed to be caused by repeated mild concussions and has a cumulative effect over time.
The NRL are not taking thier duty of care seriously by rubbing out repeat head high offenders and forcing clubs to rest concussed players.
They will pay for this in the long run, as will the players.
Now while not wanting to speculate on how Lance Thompson died, his death does sound a lot like the spate of deaths that sparked the CTE crisis in the NFL.
