Let’s face it, he couldn’t coach a team of all stars when he had the chance. Who ever thought he could do anything with the dross at Newcastle is the one that needs sacking

Left a bigger legacy and foundation then Wayne ever did. Good on him for building the Knights into something respectable shame he couldn't finish it.

He will always have that comment about Bennett

Wayne thought with his little head. Brown thought with his bald head.

Sounds like a fairly bloodless and amicable decision at first glance. If Wests Group do proper diligence looking for his replacement and not going down the "jobs for the boys" path, the next 5 years could well and truly make up for the 2014- 2017 shit show the club endured...

The Knights squad is a bottom 8 squad pumped up by all sections of the media to be much better then it ever was.

Brown has done a good job with them
Its a fringe 8 team. Ponga and Klemmer are quality and Pearce is still one of the games better halfbacks. But their backline is terrible and the forward pack is made up of toilers. Blokes like Saifiti, Barnett, Guerra and Glasby have a place in good teams but not making up the majority of a first grade pack.

A different coach wouldn't have got vastly different results this year. Browns done a good job building a team they can bring some quality juniors into. He deserved a bit more time imo.

Knights have a soft schedule to finish the season, could well end up in the 8! If they bump off a broken down Rabbitohs or inconsistent eels team suddenly the season is seen as a success. Imo should have just let brown finish up the season and then decide... or made the decision much earlier and installed a replacement

Kinda agree here Ponga is getting massive hype seen as the best in the league but really he is a massively skilled player that still needs to mature and improve his decision making, the team needs to rely less on him.

Forwards and bench not really that great and outside backs that are barely first grade standard, the team really isn’t as great as the media wants it to be.

Good signs for the future to me is that Connor Watson at hooker improves pongas game immensely, can create some spark and take pressure off ponga making for a more balanced attack.

Agreed. The backline is terrible with the exception of Ponga and sometimes Pearce. Do Knights fans actually rate Edrick Lee and SKD?

Hooker is an issue for them as well.

Edrick was awesome for us in his last season.
He was good for raiders too... except that one time.

Edrick and SKD have both been fantastic for us. We have missed Edrick big time since he's been injured. SKD provides us a tonne once you accept that he's going to have a few games a year where he embarrasses himself and everyone around him. Hymel Hunt has also been absolutely stellar for us this year.

None of them are top class game breakers, to be fair... but we're not paying them to be. They're role players in the team. Ramien (the one everyone seems to rate) is the one that has really let us down. He was supposed to be our strike power in the backline, and completely failed to fire.

The Knights graveyard claims another career.
surely geoff toovey must be an option. followed a succesful coach and dealt with a messed salary cap situation before being screwed over by the owners. Has a pretty decent record too.

Welp, this feels like it came out of nowhere but somehow isn't surprising. It's been clear for awhile that Brown has achieved all he can at the Knights. Rebuilt the squad to be formidable but doesn't have the secret sauce to win a premiership.

Geoffrey “Geoff” Toovey is an awesome coach, his stints with the Bradford Bulls & the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles goes to show the bloke is a gun coach. He’d do wonders with the Newcastle Knights squad next year.

I’m all for giving people with special needs a job. Head coach probably isn’t the most suitable position though.

I guess this will be the end of the open ended contract Newcastle pioneered.

A year later Brown was gone.
