I am OK with that but not as HC yet. Huge difference between AC and HC

Fair point... If you had the choice between Griffin and Young ?...

don't want to see another wasted year... But unfortunately that seems to be the way of the Dragons

86.. If we had to choose between the 2!. That is a hard one.
For 2023 I would choose Griffin knowing it is his last year or maybe some other caretaker will do it but not Young.. for now.
People forgot Young was Mary's defence coach in 2020 and worked in AC for a year before that? when he took over the team, did not do any better although he talked honestly which was refreshing.
Maybe Cowboys rise last year was more due to their main coach etc. We dont really know.
Does not mean he ready and ripe for picking.
But all i can judge is what I have seen of Young thus far at roles at our club.
People wanting Young now are doing exactly what they criticise our BOD about,
"gifting jobs to old boys" IMO

Couldn't agree more. Young may turn out to be a good coach in time but recent history shows that the patient ones with long apprenticeships seem to perform better. They also don't get their ambitions confused with their abilities.

Excellent reply Chief.... don't see the point in persevering with Griffin...
Whether Young is the reason cows defense improves, .we don't really know...

Just bringing his name up because that seems to be the type of criteria they choose...

We need an experienced coach who is given the ability to turn the ship around...

unfortunately cannot see this happening...

Agree with everything you said besides the experienced part, we thought we were getting experience in hook, that didn’t work - if you can coach you can coach

Dean Youg was the assistant coach in charge of defense under Mary. A complete failure. What is the reason for bringing him back? Let him coach in the ESL like others have done and then consider him on his record, if we have to.

Right. Jason Ryles it is then! (I would still like Wane, even though he has never played for the Dragons).

Dont forget Ben Hornby is lurking on media radar as ready for the Dragons
Actually if it was down to Young or Hornby to coach (hypothetically of course) Id take Ben.
I really think we need a tough nut as coach to kurb our lack of disipline and I am not sure that is Young, Hornby or Ryles. I dont know enough about Wane to make a comment but again he doesnt strike me as that type of person. We have lacked disipline since Bennett left 11 years ago. Which frustrates the hell out of me, a really big decision for the club in 2023 which will dictate our future for a number of years.

Agree want someone with proven ability. Like JD now.
However dont sell Hornby short in the tough nut discipline category.
He was a tough captain as told from an ex player who played under him and would take no crap.
But is he ready and capable of 1st grade coaching and everything that come with it.?

What I think that the club needs for the head coach position is someone who is a disciplinarian, a person who can offer encouragement, provide good advice, instil pride in the jersey, getting the players to play as a team and for each other, be there for the players, set goals, be creative, be on top of the rules, work out successful game plans, improve our defence and attack and ......, everything else. Phew!

So, it's the Dalai Lama then!

I would too! Loved Hornby as a player. Gave everything as a player, and expected the same from everyone else in the team.
He would have learned heaps under Bennett and is currently learning from Demetriou. Whether his experiences and learning under those head coaches transitions him to being a good head coach is something that I hope will happen as I think Hornby is a dedicated and a hard working guy and deserves some reward.

But, I'll keep on saying that unless we get the BEST coach out of the coaches that are available, if Hook leaves that is, we might just continue on the same roads that our previous decade of coaches have travelled.

I disagree, we thought hook was that guy and now look at what happened. Hornby has been running south’s attack for a long time and their attack is great. I personally think we should have co-coaches of dean and Ben, with each one running defence and attack, but right now if I had to pick out of the 2 I probably couldn’t split them.

I'd say we need Hasler on a 3 year deal, let him pick his assistants. It will be a big job to turn this club around, and to do a good job the coach would need to be tough and experienced. Hasler is our best bet right now.
