one reason for the less impact hitups could be that in 01 he was kindof an unknown so he wasnt as marked as he is today.
plus we had a whole pack of dominate forwards then, last few years to call vella and pearson dominating is just wrong, so he was forced to do alot more of the workload  #-o
hopefully next year things will change as our forwards are looking alot better plus morrison, wagon and even cayless all usualy do a lot of tackling themselves as long as them three stay fully fit all year well we might just get the old hindy back

that doesn't explain why he does the same thing in Test matches, where he is surrounded by workhorses.

on Glenn Morrison: i think he's a workhorse and not much else, nothing on Hindy. i just don't think he has the ball-playing, line breaking, tackle breaking ability that Hindy possesses.

The game where Fitzgibbon was out injured was the one where he made 57 tackles. Making up for the lack of work from Carroll IMO. Hindmarsh plays himself into the whole 80 minutes of a game and prefers the heavy workload to be involved. If he is making 40 tackles than someone esle is doing the hit ups - which didn't happen much at Parramatta this year. One thing that gets missed is the amount of decoy work that Hindmarsh does. Being heavily targetted when he does have the ball he draws players from the intended recipient.....

Don't think the Eels need another Hindy. Much in the same way the Raiders needed another player who was capable of providing a good work rate to lessen the high workrate of Brad Clyde, Parramatta have recruited a player who can lessen the workload of Hindy and have him focus on attacking football. This is why Parramatta have missed Ian.....

you can have Ian back for mine, he's been ordinary for us. and you're missing the point on Nathan, i think. he might well prefer to get involved and do a lot of the work, but is he sacrificing some quality because of that? his carting the ball up in the Tri-Nations has been nothing special. not crap by any means, just nothing special, as we all know Hindy can be. he's a fantastic worker, i just reckon it'd be a damn shame if that's all he's remembered for. workhorses are a dime a dozen, quality players are not. especially when you're doing 57 tackles - there's just no need to be doing that much.

Hindmarsh carries the Eels forward pack. As soon as the rest get off their john brown hind parts the sooner we will see the running Hindmarsh of old.

Mason's 15 devastating hitups and 20 tackles compared to Hindmarsh's 15 average hitups and 40 quality tackles. Hindmarsh is a match saver, Mason is a match winner.

I'm hoping to see the devastating runner back next year. As people have said, Hindy has been carrying not only our pack but our entire team. No player should have to make 56 tackles against wests, especially when the next best was down around 20 (from memory??). We were lack lustre in defence all season, to put it mildly, and Hindmarsh was really the only player standing up to make tackles. He still averages about 15 hit ups a game, which is fairly usual, but none of them have been the damaging runs of 2000 and 2001 because he has been forced to do so much defence. Hopefully with a pack of

8)Cayless
9)Riddell
10)Cannings
11)Hindmarsh
12)Morrison
13Wagon

And then with the likes of Stringer, Robinson, Vella, Widders, Afamasaga, Tsoulos(who will finally be fit hopefully), MoiMoi(same as Tsoulos), Cordoba, and others on the bench and on standby for injuries.....a workaholic back row to take some of the load, and hard working props like Cayless and Robinson, and we will see him back to his attacking best as well as his defensive best.

Also agree (although i wouldn't say Hindmarsh is not a match-winner in his won right because he is and has been on many occasions but Willie is more devastating). I wish to god it was Hindmarsh playing for the Doggies in the GF instead of Willie Mason. Hindmarsh is certainly a quality player but he can be contained whereas Big Willie is and was the deciding factor with his awesome hit-ups.

You have hit the nail on the head. Mason has been in brilliant form outside of the last Test while Hindy has worked himself back into playing again after being off for so long. He also seems to be playing a role that Bennett has placed him in....

As soon as the 2iron with ears ( coach Bennett) replaced him in the 2nd test v's the poms we had no chance of beating them.
A great player with untold stamina and endurance.
How could you ever bag him?
I agree, he is a great defensive player and workhorse. Anyone would want him in their team.

Would someone mind telling me how many hit-ups he's done this year. I've always been under the idea that he does a huge amount of tackling but doesn't do as many H/Ups as other forwards do
