Man KG's play so far this season has been alarming. I know it's early (and he could possibly be pacing himself) but he looks done.

Gotta say my favourite part of Lakers' games this season has been seeing Swaggy P play in garbage time. So special.

Mike D must be having fun coaching this team. Much better fit for him compared to last season.

48 million dollar two year extension for Kobe through to 2016. Madness.

Selfish from Kobe, stupid from LA.

They're paying him like the best player in the league into his late 30s. He isn't the best player in the league now, he wasn't the best player in the league before he got injured. Another reason this is stupid, no other team would have paid him close to this. The Knicks and Nets, the rich lunatic teams are out of cap room. Other contenders are too smart to pay him that. And he's not about to leave the Lakers for a lottery team. The market rate would have been 15 million at most.

And from Kobes pov, pure selfishness. He is not all about winning. He is all about himself. Duncan and KG and others took much less than they could have at similar points of their careers to help build better teams. Lebron, the best player on the planet, took less than he could have for his best years to build a better team.

No team paying Kobe 23 million in 2016 is going to win a championship.

Damn, I'm happy he has re-signed but that is too much. I know he brings and generates a lot more than that for the lakers but it's going to be very hard to compete and put a capable roster together now.

I was hoping that it would be 2/30 but man, what do ya do

The more I read the more it isn't a really bad thing, lebron ain't coming next year. The only other guy worth of note is Melo and we could still get him if they wanted to. We can go after Love in 15/16 or Durant in 16.

Kobe will bring in the money and will ensure they are competitive enough, who knows what the roster will look like but I don't think it's as bad as people are making because in reality who else could that money be spent on that will bring a championship next year

Extending Kobe isn't the wrong move. Extending him for this much is. They could have got the same result for much cheaper.

Lakers have probably given up on the 2014 free agency class and are instead re-tooling for 2016 free agency. If you look at it from that perspective then it kinda makes sense. How much other teams were willing to pay is irrelevant regarding the Lakers and Kobe. This was a loyalty payment more than anything, especially as we haven't even seen what he'll look like post torn Achilles.

I'm cool with it as long as Kobe doesn't start bitching about wanting more talent on the team.

"This was easy," Bryant told Yahoo Sports on Monday night. "This wasn't a negotiation. The Lakers made their offer with cap and building a great team in mind while still taking care of me as a player.

"I simply agreed to the offer."

With respect I don't see how the Lakers are going to build a great team with Kobe taking up that much of the cap. Doesn't seem compatible.

I have no idea either but we'll see what they do, the lakers have surprised us many times before so who knows

The Lakers have surprised the world many times in finding ways to build great teams.

But they've never had to build a team while paying a 36 year old almost half the cap.

A great business decision. A terrible basketball decision.

The most frustrating thing about it, to me at least, is that they gave the extension before even seeing what he'd look like coming back from the Achilles injury. I could possibly talk myself into paying Kobe that much if the Lakers were getting the Kobe from last season, who was an amazing offense player (offset by his terrible defense). The chances of him being the same player from last season are pretty remote though.

Was reading an article where the GM said it was actually a pay cut, he could be making 30 next year instead..not enough of a pay cut though lol

From watching most of Philly's game this year.. they are a fun team to watch play.. But I don't understand why they didn't extend Evan Turners contract? He fits well with them.. And he should come at a reasonable cost.

Because he has sucked every season pre this one. Plus who knows how he fits with the rebuild as next off season as ideally we will have 2 lotto picks to add to Noel and MCW and max free agency room x 2.

Turner needs the ball in his hands to be effective, but he's not good enough to be the number 1 option on a title challenging team.

Wonder if they'll keep him now.. He's playing well so far this season..

Cavs vs Heat.. Commentators talking about the possibility of LBJ going back.. but that Cavs team is horrible, no way he will go back there unless they pull off some trades.

f**king Heat man. Of course they would get someone like Beasley to be a productive player. What a luxury for them to have someone that talented on the bench.

Gotta say though that the Heat are great to watch. Their ball movement is beautiful.
