The plug that charges my less than 1 year old lap top won't work anymore the place that sold it to me want's to charge me $180 rip off dollars for this small job. Can anyone advise a place that will do this small job without ripping me off in the St.George area?

go to dick smith with make and model... they generally have universal chargers. Alternativly- check out ebay....

other option- buy a Mac.... they just work and never break.

Harvey Norman. Universal Charger for $99. If that's not what you need, the repair should be covered under warranty.

Depends on the circumstances. They're probably claiming that it isn't a manufacturing fault. My "What have you been doing to it?" comment was a joke, but a lot of retailers try to get out of warranty work by saying it was a user issue. They do this because they simply don't care enough, or are trying to make a quid.

Father, if this sounds right, the place you bought it from should look after you - even if they think it is a user fault. Name them if you like. Good retailers don't do this sort of crap.

$180 is an obscene amount of money if it is simply a busted solder joint behind the socket, especially considering that they have already made money from the sale.

Bought it from the laptop factory and when I rang them they referred me to this on their website

WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER: Cracked screens, damaged power supplies, liquid and drink spills, lost data, lost passwords or corrupted Windows partitions. Warranty does not cover software, nor does it cover physical damage.

The problem was a faulty cord ,the thing from the power point to the computer so I rang H.P compaq yesterday they sent me a new cord by Courier which arrived just now in less than a day at no charge to me at all. Thumbs up big time to H,P compaq thumbs down to laptop factory for indifference and nil customer service

Wow. That's low.

It should say "Warranty doesn't cover any thing that happens on its own."

Buy your stuff from Harvey Norman. Best warranty you can ask for.

Harvey Norman weren't that good when I tried to test out a warranty.

I bought my last computer from small business on Bundall Road here on the GC. It had a dodgy connection on the mother board and died a few months later. So I took it back. They fixed it in five minutes, no fuss. Didn't even want to look at my receipt. The difference between a decent business and a crap one.

Glad to hear that you got it sorted out Father. Btw, you got a solid mention in a recent F7s article... you should get a chuckle out of this: http://forums.leagueunlimited.com/showthread.php?t=390014 (post No. 9)
