Just go high Benji...jump on the big blokes, jump on & hang on....a forward will be along very soon to assist.

I wonder if the GC Dolphins will target Marshall and Tim Smith from Parra for that matter, when they are allowed into the competition? 2 local juniors as their scrum base would be pretty appealing.

As for the "weak forward pack"? I wouldn't call the 2004 Tigers pack weak, more underrated lacking the glamour of other NRL clubs. In 2004 you had Sattler, Skadalis, Galea, Senter, Graham, Mears, Payten with the emerging Gibbs, Laffranchi and Halatau...each to their own though I wouldn't undersell your pack to add weigh to your Benji argument.

We only had two forwards last year averaging over 100 metres and we were one of the lowest in offloads.

Galea struggled with injury until the later parts of the year and never really got into top gear.

Graham had a few poor games before being dropped to premier league, never to be seen again.

Payten missed the early part of the season with injury and never really recovered, and really went missing in some games.

Sattler really got pulled down by his injury towards the end of the year and lost alot of speed.

The rest of the forwards tried hard, but they really got outplayed in alot of games, particularly the last three against Brisbane, Newcastle and the Cowboys.

Bugger, according to 2GB he's out for 6-8 weeks. That's a bit of a worry.

Thanks to innsaneink for the info.

I hope that he can make the necessary adjustments, do the work in the gym and come back to be a success, I hope he doesn't become another Brett Papworth type who promises so much as an attacking player with bucket loads of ability, but not quite the body to go with it...

Dave Woods was another one. Brilliant attacking player and could have played for Australia had he stayed fit. Some judges reckoned he was as good as Renouf - unusual and unfortunate injuries cruelled his career.

Todd Payten will do that to you though. There will be days where he looks like the best prop in the country. However as you said he goes missing too much. He was good at that at the Raiders too.

Ive been disappointed with him....very.....Sheens argues his off season was interrupted last year, and it was I'll give him that, but I think its really a feeble excuse.
Hes stated he wants a country jumper this year, surprise surprise his contracts up too... ...lets just hope talk translates to action.

I was dissapointed too........He can look so good and then just clock off.

I did notice that even though in attack he ws poor,he was a weapon in defence.I thought he was our best hitter last year by far.

His running game was atrocious, just not enough metres from him,and he looked really unfit to boot.

Hopefully a lot of that had to do with his injury/recovery issues.

I have always rated Payten,at the Roosters and at Canberra and I know he can be one of the top props in the game.He isbuilt for it and has skills too.

Fingers crossed Sheensie is right up him....and has him ready to fire.

Payten has the potential to be one of best props going
he has execellent vision for a prop, can sniff out a line break and knows when the offload is on, when he does its normally a gem of an offload to but as said he just doesnt play to potential enough

he will do this 5 or 6 times a year and the other 20 odd he is either injured or might as well be cause he is MIA.

Still some hope he can come good but i have mass ive doubts, as always its said to see someone with that much potential waste it :?

The problem is his fitness is crap. I was always a big supporter of his at Canberra but there were times when it was very hard to justify his inclusion in the team as he was simply a passenger. His weight bounces around a lot and it would seem he struggles for motivation.

When he's on song though he can win games for you... he has incredible ball skills for a prop. I remember he threw a three-man cut out pass in 2001 for a try to Vainikolo. Not many props can do that.

Interesting to see whether Sheens has enough patience with him - I think he will however as it was Sheens who blooded him as a 16 y.o. in 1996 - still the youngest Raider ever.

I don't know how much patience Sheens will have with him, but I know alot of fans won't have much.

I think it's lack of depth and potential keeping him in the team.

Here's hoping that his desire to play rep football this year is genuine and not just the usual pre-season talk because if he's not performing I wouldn't want him to be holding out someone like Bryce Gibbs.

This has to be concerning if your a Wests Tigers fan.

Benji Marshall, albeit still only 19, is fast becoming a player you grimace over each time he makes a play in the Tigers jersey given his small frame.

The youngster may have a "electrifying sidestep" though I would hope this is not all he will be known for over the next few seasons given the enormous amount of hope and time invested in the young kiwi.

Marshall is not likely to play another trial as reported, there is a chance he may miss the Round 1 opener...hardly an ideal lead up for Sheens and co. given we are still only talking about a NRL player with 11 first grade appearances to his credit.

Again, I do not doubt his talent, though admittedly he is a player that the media has built up to the point of falling into the "overrated" catergory as he has not really done anything to solidify his hype apart from a few choice side steps.

"The next Brad Fittler!"....hardly

And I'm sure that you believe that Marshall is the one who is walking up to the media and telling them to hype him up like that..

If the media is going to hype him up as "The next Brad Fittler..", tell me how the f*** is that Marshall's fault that the media is whoring him up so much?

No Surgery for Marshall
Written by: Tiger news - Wayne Cousins

Doctors have confirmed Wests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall will not have to undergo surgery on his injured right shoulder.

Steve Noyce, CEO of Wests Tigers, said “ the MRI scans have revealed pleasing news for the Club”.

Marshall injured the right shoulder in the trial win over Italy at Mollymook Oval last Saturday night.

"The injury doesn't require surgery and Benji will be working closely with our medical and rehabilitation staff to manage the situation,'' Noyce said. "We expect to see Benji back on the field in 6 to 8 weeks.''

Marshall was relieved to hear the pleasing results “It has been a frustrating wait, after being out for a large part of last season, but I’m positive with the help of the Rehabilitation Staff I will be back on the paddock in no time” said Marshall.

if marshall was at the bulldogs, roosters or broncos, he would still be coasting round in premier league or lower till he was physically ready for first grade

im not saying he isnt an immense talent, but he needs to do a stack of weights for a year or two before he can even try to tackle people consistently the way he does

I wonder if he ever regrets having the great Rah Hoo Hoo running at him and then him leading with his shoulder to stop the big guy

if he does make a successful come back, opposition teams would be stupid not running a few of the bigger guys at him he might be effected by the injuries and get tackle shy

but that is a job for sheens and co to work out with the young guy

I doubt regret is in his make up, nor many other first grade footballers.
Regret is for people that want to wallow in the past.
You dont get to elite level footy by dwelling on mistakes youve made in the past. you learn from them and get on with it.
Hes worked on that injury, gotten thru it come out the other side....this is completely new.
