Lol , you couldnt have chosen a worse comparison.

The current CEO of woolworths started as a shelf stacker

http://www.theage.com.au/business/long-way-to-top-for-woolies-shelf-stacker-20110404-1cwt7.html

Infact woolworths have a history of promoting from within , and they're pretty successful.

Haha I actually knew that, why the heck did I use that as an example

Should of said trolley boy ;-)

In my opinion the CEO has to ensure the business is running at an optimum from the top down in a financial respect, legalities are in check and reports to the board. It's the responsibility of the teams below the CEO to ensure operations are going well and if they aren't then the CEO has to fire and hire.

Howard? Quayle? Fahey?

Does the OP have a soft spot for the name John?

They're not CEO's, they're f**king dinosaurs. I don't know how old Quayle is but the other 2 are hitting 70 soon. Bloody ridiculous putting those blokes up as an option for the role of a business executive. They'd be more suited to being commissioners, not executives.

Fahey is president of WADA, FFS.

The position has never been held by a female.

1908-09: James J Giltinan
1910-28: James JJ Smith
1924-27: John La Maro
1928-40: Fred Flowers
1941-60: Harry 'Jersey' Flegg
1960-72: Bill Buckley
1973-82: Kevin Humphreys
1983-96: John Quayle
1984-97: Ken Arthurson
1996-97: John Ribot
1997-98: Neil Whitaker
1999-2001: David Moffett
2002-12: David Gallop

I don't know if AFL, Soccer, or Union have had female CEO's.

Gallop arguably was a 'conservative' CEO.

It would be a bold statement on the direction 'the game' is wishing to take.

There are many qualified females capable of doing the job.

Is it time the NRL CEO was a female?

If an ex player needs to have a business background retired a while ago with no current ties to clubs. No current ceo should be considered. Let them quit & sit on a state board or ARL for a few years 1st.

no way, not with all the red blooded meatheads in our game that still think women should keep their mouths shut and legs open.

Whether it is or not, I don't see what difference it would make.

A CEO often represents it's product. By the NRL giving the job to a female this may attract sponsors and corporate dollars that wouldn't normally take an interest in the NRL.

'The game' (which isn't even a settled definition) often talks about itself heading in the right or wrong direction. The NRL may see placing a female in the role of CEO as a 'move in the right direction'.

That is why it could possibly be a good move. It may dispel this cliche that some people who follow league have.
