Former Brisbane Wests second rower Dave Warry has started training with the Sea Eagles and has been given time with the NRL full time squad by coach Des Hasler. At 6 feet three and 106 kgs,Warry has impressed everyone with his attitude to training in his first two sessions with the club.Recommended by assistant coach Dennis Moore,Warry will put a lot of pressure on the backrowers next season.
Another player to impress is versatile newcomer Paul Stephenson.Stephenson has been likened in size by Steve Blocker roach as reminding him of former Queensland star Gene Miles.Stephenson says he is loving life at the Sea Eagles and has settled into his new apartment and enjoying his new challenge.
One player cheering over the change of training venue for summer to Rat Park at Warriewood is new halfback Michael Monaghan.
Monaghan is living with his sister and brother in law at Warriewood - just a good drop kick away from his new training venue.
Monaghan is another to impress at training and has already been earmarked to be the team's general next season. The ex Canberra halfback has been earmarked months ago by coach Des Hasler to be the player to point the Eagles around the park next season. -Admin

Don't worry Swoop it is a compliment he spends so much time in here hanging on every article written about the Mighty Sea Eagles. His next step in the 10 step program is admitting he follows Manly and renouncing the make believe support for the slipperys. After that there is the 10th and final step of apologising to those he has hurt in the process of his charade(sp?).

I must say the depth you guys have will be a lot more impressive then first thought - forward depth in particular. Harris and Hopoate may have to return to the backs just to get a look in. Probably only numbers three, four and five look the most vulnerable at this stage though this young fellow Stephenson looks pretty good.

We have one stop that is vulnerable and that spot was vacated by Macdougall. If Stephenson can make the step up then we should be ok, with the backline looking something like this, Monaghan no.7, Mullane/Williamson no.6, Stephenson and McGuiness no.3 and 4, Donald and Hicks on the wings. Depth in the centres is a problem but like you said we have plenty of depth in the forwards so Hoppa and Watmough can cover the backline if needed.

Two spots are vulnerable to me and that is centre and 5/8.I would rather see willo at lock and beaver to 2nd row.I haven't seen much of Mullane as he didn't play much there at the sharks in 1st grade.i hope Stephenson turns out allright but he is still pretty inexperienced.

I don't think Warry will put any pressure on the first graders at all.

I hope he doesn't walk away when he thinks he isn't the team he should be. I don't think he would've been in the top 10 back rowers in the Qld Cup this year. But you never know I hope he puts egg all over my face, I just think if Manly had better options than him to sign from Qld.

Yeah he was definately out of left field, the coaches seem to have some wraps on him thou,I guess we will wait and see.His size and weight are definately good signs, just hope his heart and skill match.

Nah, I think Parramatta will do better than that!
swoop the Rabbits will save them from the spoon......only just ;-)

I think Williamson has to start whether he is at 5/8 or lock...his defence is something we can't do without plus I'd say he is our first choice kicker!

Andrew Walker wouldn't be out of place kicking and I was surprised that Scott Donald didn't get to kick more last year. Even though it was first division when he was at the Eels he kicked some good ones.

Andrew Walker would be my 2nd choice kicker but I'd let him concentrate on his game and getting back into League before putting the kicking duties on him but Hasler will know best.... I didn't know Scott Donald could kick but he seems to be talented in many areas of the game....we also have Sam Harris who can pop a few over if we need more kickers! Who will be taking the kicking duties on at the Eels???

Be interesting to find out as we have three first choice goal kickers next year in Witt, Luke Burt and the new guy Chris Thorman. I suppose they will have a kick off to see who takes it.

Donald is a good kicker - won a game in PL for us when he was here....

Well after watching Witt, I'd say he will get the nod although I haven't seen this young fella kick for you....I find it funny they say that Union kickers are better than League kickers, not only because we'd prefer to attack instead of go for the two points in League but also when you look at the various clubs in the NRL and the wealth of talent in kickers we have (excluding maybe the Warriors and Storm) it really has no basis for the argument!

Union kickers aren't better, the balls they use are.The union ball is so much easier and lighter to kick very similar in feel to a soccer ball where as the lkeague ball feels like your kicking a wet coconut.
