New Eels Review

I am quite excited about 2004. Not just because of the new year of footy, but because I believe we have made some very good signings. I think most, if not all, the players we've signed would be capable of stepping up to First Grade if we need it, and that is a good thing.

But tell me, who are you guys most excited about and why?

Personally, the dark horse for me is Wise K. He probably won't get too much time ahead of Grothe, Burt, Petersen or Graham, but heck - I've seen him play and he is good. He is sort of a Richards type player minus the knee problems. So if he can get a go in Firsts I am sure he will not disappoint. He has just never really reached his potential (because he has never had a good coach).

I am looking forward to seeing Tim Smith. From what I have seen and heard he is growing into a big lad. I think he might just move Wagon out of lock with his ball skills by mid year provided he is brought along properly. The thought of having proper ball players in 6, 7 and 13 just makes my mouth water........

I'm very much looking forward to seeing Guru junior and Cannings , our best two signings IMO.

Also looking forward to seeing some players like Vella and Dykes regain some form that we know that they are capable of.

Last but not least looking forward to a full season from Hindy, Burt, Graham, Cayless and Armit.

Bring it on.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing Burty get a full season. I don't care what anyone says, the kid woulda made the Kangaroo squad if he had not have been injured.

Also, who couldn't be excited about Grothe returning. It could be the greatest comeback since Michael Buettner :)

I'm looking forward to Ronald Prince making a big impression in first grade. Hopefully he carries on from where he left off this season.

Looking forward to the things that heve already been mentioned. I'm also curious to so how Micheal Witt develops this year. Hopefully he can start where he left off and improve even more.

Remember, HJ, our little bet at the beginning of the year about Luke returning this season? well.... you owe me the $ for a case of beer :D . He didn't return this season JUST like I said he wouldnt. eehehe ;-)

Im just looking forward to a strong *consistent* season from the eels... one with a lot less injuries and a lot more good fortune...

I guess the best word for the Eels recruitment for next year is interesting.

A lot of the players brought have the potential to be very good but either are unproven eg Thorman or have had problems in the past eg Grothe jnr.

So it could turn out to be a very good year signings wise but it also has an equal chance of being a total failure.

As far as who i'm interested in seeing next year well obviously Grothe Jnr but he'll have a hard time getting on the wing with Burt and Petersen there. Guess it is possible to move Burt to fullback but then the question is what happens to Graham and Prince.

I'm actually very interested in seeing Chris Thorman go around he is 22 and I think Witt turns 20 some time next year. meaning that if they can get a combination going they could form a very good set of halves for about the next 8-10 years.

Of the old boys I'd love to see Burt, Cayless and Hindmarsh get full seasons in.

also want to see Fui Fui Moi Moi play in a game that is on ch.9 just to hear Rabs trying to call a break he makes.

I'm looking forward to much. Namely Hindy grab hold of the NSW and Australian No. 11 jumper that destiny has always said he would. Also, Jamie Lyon on the end of better work from the midfield men. That running style, head back - awesome!!!

But most of all, I am looking forwad to seeing Parra with the first decent half/fiveeight combo since the 1980's. Dykes in full cry behind a go forward pack. That's what was promised last year, and that is what I want to see second most this year.

And of courseNathan cayless lifting the telstra Cup in October.

With B. Smiths record of giving youngen's a run, I wouldn't hold your breath. ;-)

I know.... its a dream that will hopefully turn into reality. Hopefully his form makes damn certain he has to be picked.
