New Eels Review

I can't wait for 2004.

It seems to be very promising.

I mean, late this year Dykes was regaining form. Cayless and Hindy were asserting their dominance. Petersen and Moods were reliable as ever on the wings. Witt was starting to get the feel for First Grade in the number 7.

And then mix into this the depth and quality of our signings: Cannings, Grothe Jnr., Muckert, Muspratt, Stapleton, Pearson (I am interested in him; he's not young, but he's an old hard-head; he could be very useful in cerain situations; plus he makes the metres and tackles), Katavarata, Pai, Thorman and many, many more.

BRING ON 2004!

AKA THE YEAR OF THE EEL

I am looking forward to seeing Tim Smith. From what I have seen and heard he is growing into a big lad. I think he might just move Wagon out of lock with his ball skills by mid year provided he is brought along properly. The thought of having proper ball players in 6, 7 and 13 just makes my mouth water........

With B. Smiths record of giving youngen's a run, I wouldn't hold your breath. ;-)

I know.... its a dream that will hopefully turn into reality. Hopefully his form makes damn certain he has to be picked.

I'd love to see talented youngsters such as Tim Smith be given an opportunity more often, even if it is only on the interchange bench. Recently though, it just doesn't seem to be Brians way, unless of course it is forced upon him through injury, or at least 8 weeks of poor form. ;-)
I know Wagon was voted players player this season, but if he has another year like last year, I too hope that the Tim Smiths of this world will be given an opportunity before our season is over.

I would also love to see Chris Thorman given a fair chance. I like the attitude of the boy. He so desperately wants to succeed and is so excited by the opportunity given to him, that I feel his hunger to perform will pull him through. I'd hate to think that he is judged on a few early games, given that it will take him a little time to settle into an intensity of Rugby League of which he has never experienced.

And of course, Guru Jnr. This guy has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I just hope that he finally realises it. He seriously could be as good as his dad if he put his mind to it. If he doesn't, I don't see him getting too many chances elsewhere. Last throw of the dice Eric. Don't blow it.

Last throw of the dice for Brian Smith too. Let's not forget that!

If there is another season with as many sub-standard performances like this, you just might be right Misty.

Personally, the dark horse for me is Wise K. He probably won't get too much time ahead of Grothe, Burt, Petersen or Graham, but heck - I've seen him play and he is good. He is sort of a Richards type player minus the knee problems. So if he can get a go in Firsts I am sure he will not disappoint. He has just never really reached his potential (because he has never had a good coach).

You know the story about Wise and his broken ankle he got towards the end of 2002 at the Drag's. Busted his ankle, worked some weird ass old fijian remedy with bananna leaves and stuff as instructed, not by the club doctor but his mum, and he was back playing two weeks later!

if only Burty and Hindy had Fijian mothers hey! :D
