Hi guys,
How have your weeks been?
Turned on the television tonight and was saddened to see the Footy Show hasn't changed at all. Looks like we will have The Footy Show for another five years with the rights going to Nine. Made me think it would be great to propose a new type of Footy Show and sell the idea to Nine. Nine must know that anything would be better than what they have at the moment. I was thinking if we on this forum put all our ideas together then we could make something pretty good. The general structure could be as follows....
Brainstorming here....
I like the panel layout as it is right now. I think we need a person on the panel from another sport, but not Slater. I was thinking Grant Hackett or Kieran Perkins - someone with international appeal and a good looker for the ladies and the homosexuals.
A female on the show would be good for the heterosexuals. Someone like Erin Nolan or Rebecca Wilson. Someone with experience. Wilson is tough so she could put good questions to the players, but she is not as good looking as Nolan. I'll let you guys vote on that one:sarcasm:.
I could be the main host. Although I'm not a player I have a journalism background from when I lived in Kiama. Eddie McGuire started the AFL show after a stint in journalism and I could play a similar role to what he played on the AFL show.
We would need a funny man to play the role that Sam Newman plays in the AFL show. Now that Fox and Nine are linked with the deal Matty Johns could join me on the panel and he could play his characters to keep the laughs going. I always thought Paul Harrigon was funny, so he could play that role also (instead of 'thats gold' maybe something fresh like 'bonza' and a new hand move that the crowd could mimic so that we can show all the people who are watching our show). Anyone else got an idea who could be the funny man?
As for the format, I think it needs to have half league content and half funny, crazy things. For the league content the panel and I could go through team lists and talk about the controversial parts of the game. I wouldn't mind doing some Andrew Denton type interviews with interesting players in the game e.g Daly Cherry Evans and past players like Brett Sherwin (A sort of where are they now crossed with enough rope. e.g. I try to make them cry about emotional things).
The other half of the show could be filled with crazy antics. I know they do some of that now, but I think they could put more thought into it. Myself and the other guests could go and sleep at that haunted house in Junee. The cameras could watch us getting frightened during the night, for example. Or, if not that, we could go pig shooting or sky diving.
Mainly I think a new panel would work well with some of the current ideas, along with some of my ideas/your ideas.
What does everyone think about this idea?
