I was gonna post this in the 'best rap album of 05' thread, but yo - this album is imo so much better than everything else in 05 (except maybe Common's) that it needs a thread all its own. Late Registration dropped on Monday and it has been spinning non-stop in my player since. Low point is the Brandy collabo, but the rest is a plateau of genius. Track 21 is a little gem.

Worth noting: Kanye enlisted the great Jon Brion as a co-producer, whose past productions include both of Fiona Apple's awesome albums, and the Endless Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind soundtrack. His influence on the cd is significant, creating a soundscape unlike just about anything heard in hip hop.

Get it and post your critique.

I was lining up at JB-HiFi, buying a Broken Social Scene album. The guy in front of me had a Kanye West album in his hand. I laughed.

:lol:You bastard. Yeah I give heaps of crap to a mate of mine that likes Kanye, but I keep hearing stuff about him, so I may check it out. I really hate 99% of hiphop/rap however...

But c_eagle, he who laughs last etc etc.... If you have ever questioned the musical heights that hip-hop can reach (and oh so many of you have), then download a song from this album called "We Major", and allow yourself to be enlightened. This sh*t can be so beautiful.

Oh, and before I should have said Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. I always get that wrong.

Why be such a music snob?

Sunday

Personally I think this one is better than Dropout, much smoother sound, flows better. Touch The Sky and GoldDigger are faves atm

Is this not proof enough as to why this album most likely sucks?

Either your computer has good taste in music or it's protected against copying. If it's the latter, you can download a patch pretty easily. Ripping your CD's onto your computer isn't against the law, btw, so you don't have to worry if you're a moral weeny.

This album has its moments. Production is off the hook, every beat is awesome. However, Kanye as an emcee just doesnt do it for me. moments of brilliance with Nas on We Major, and with Common (good to see more of these two collaborating), but yeah some tracks, Diamonds remix for instance, just didnt hit the spot. However overall, Id say itd be next to Common for album of the year, although Im sure Immortal Technique will have something more to say about that...

Tonight on an NBC special program to raise money for the hurricane relief, Kanye West departed from a prepared script and said "George Bush doesn't care about black people", along with a few other comments. Mike Myers who was beside him and had just read a comment from a teleprompter, looked at him in surprise and then the camera cut to something else. The show was on live. Later NBC cut the comment out of a replay of the program on sister network CNBC, and issued an explanation that West departed from prepared comments and did not reflect the views of the network.

I was watching and immediately felt wow, this is one of those TV moments that'll be talked about for a long time.

So inappropriate. Same with Jesse Jackson. It's not the time to be throwing around allegations of racism.
