Sharks Appoint New Group CEO

Wednesday, 2 December 2009
The Cronulla Sharks today made one of the most significant announcements, appointing John Osborne to a newly created role of Shark’s Group Chief Executive Officer, a major building block in the club's restructure.
This role has been designed to bring all facets of the Shark’s business together under one umbrella and to position the Club in the best possible place for its long term sustainable future.
Chairman, Damian Irvine, was delighted to welcome John to the Club as a very important part of the Shark’s new strategy and vision; a strategy that has already seen a number of key building blocks put in place over the last few months.
“The role of ‘Group CEO’ has been created to engage the community and drive an evolution that will result in the Sharks being seen as the benchmark for professional sporting and hospitality organisations in Australia.”
“During his 15 years as CEO of Mingara Club on the Central Coast, John was able to transform a relatively obscure club into one of the largest and most successful clubs and community sporting organizations in Australia.”
“This appointment is the culmination of a thorough and comprehensive recruitment process and we are extremely happy with the outcome and quality of leader we have found in John. I’m very confident that now we have the structure and team in place to achieve the success on and off field that our loyal members and supporters so deserve and have been waiting too long for.
“John’s background and experience fits like a glove with the recent reinvigoration of the Sharks’ entire organisation ” he concluded.
John Osborne is very positive about the unique potential of the Cronulla Sharks..
“I believe that I have been presented with a ‘rare opportunity’ to make a real difference by helping the Sharks bring their vision to life”.
“The cross section of roles that I have experienced in the tourism and leisure sector and the exposure to large development projects positions me strongly to assist the Sharks to achieve their objectives”.
John will formally commence at the Sharks on 4 January 2010.

we are getting new figures because the structure of the sharks has changed. cutting out deadwood plus creating new roles.

i dont know if its good or what but for interests sake i think the club is set up like this:

board - oversee everything
group CEO - oversees the running of the 3 sharks entities, being:
- football club operations, currently headed by richard fisk
- leagues club operations, dont know who will be heading that but we just gave the current manager the boot
- stadium operations, currently looked after by jarrod johnstone

obviously then under these are another layer of staff. under fisk, for example, we have that other new guy whose name i cant remember who was announced the other day to manage the football team.

More to the point is how much $$ are we giving these suits?

Is our cap money going into employing people into buzz word positions?

good summation there topking.

on the footy side of it you have

Group CEO - Osbourne
Footy CEO - Fisk
Football manager - New Guy
Coach - Ricky

maybe it means ricky now just has to coach the team rather than do everything else.

Salaries are equivalent to industry standards for this type of position, maybe even slightly less because sporting organisations dont pay as much as banks, producers etc.
Most of the money for the salaries has come from slashing other positions within the organisation. I have heard that maybe one more exec position is gonna go.........

Good to know. What is the industry standard salary for a Group CEO who has been employed to "bring all facets of the Shark’s business together under one umbrella and to position the Club in the best possible place for its long term sustainable future."

He's overseeing a lot. Would have to be $130k-$150k plus.

And we are going to pay how many other CEOs? 2? 3?

I wouldn't know. newman said industry standard. If such a thing existed it should be available somewhere just to look at and ballpark figures

Here's a link I found with data for non sporting CEOs in NSW. It's only 1 watery source though

http://content.mycareer.com.au/salary-centre/executive/

Whether it's $150k or $250k we don't need so many suits on that kind of money. It's overkill. None of these fekkers will be on the field to win us a game.

in the club industry it is turnover based as far as I know. Guys want the bigger gigs for the bigger cash. You f**k up u cant move on. Thats good incentive to rock the boat.
