New Interchange System for Junior Reps

I heard a rumour that the Junior Reps could be using a 4 man bench with only 12 interchanges next season. That is a change from the 7 man bench and unlimited interchange which had been the system that was used.

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about that?

I hope that it doesn't happen. i think it is better to give more players a chance to play at this level.

Not to my knowledge Girvs. Flegg yes, Matts and Ball no. But I'll double check.

Youth proves no barrier as league, union go head-to-head for talent

Here is part of that article:
At junior league level there are fears changes to the rules governing representative football will play into the hands of rugby union.

The league is to drop the number of reserves in each age-limited representative team from seven to four. It will also scrap unlimited interchanges and introduce a rule aligned with the NRL policy of limiting a team's four reserves to 12 interchanges.

This isn't good for the code.

I heard that too...

the theory was that teams that were fielding big Islander kids were exploiting the system by continuelly putting them on and taking off the field at various times through out the match, which means that teams who may well be as talented as the bigger teams suffer due to the lack of size and at that age it shouldn't be about who's got the biggest team.

just what i heard.

If that is true it is CRAP!! Look a the two Ball and Mtts winning sides from this year..Neither were big at all, their forward pack was predominately white and were always up against bigger opposition.
At their age they are starting to become professional footballers, IMO what better way to introduce them to the professional game then have them playing NRL rules. With their pre-season conditioning they are certainly fit enough.
The only downside is the fact that more players will not be getting a run.
