New-look NRL on Fox kicks off the 2012 NRL season on Fox Sports

NRL on FOX makes its 2012 return tomorrow night in a radically re-vamped format to herald a new era of Rugby League on FOX SPORTS.

New co-hosts Matthew Johns and Warren Smith will be joined by former NRL hard men Mark Geyer and Gorden Tallis on a brand new set for the opening show of the season from 7.30pm AEDT on FOX SPORTS 2HD & FOX SPORTS 2.

The four panellists have left behind the show’s traditional set and instead will meet on the NRL on Fox lounge to open up the conversation on ‘The greatest game of all’ each Wednesday night throughout the season.

Johns, Smith and Geyer will be the regular faces on the 2012 version of the flagship FOX SPORTS magazine show, joining an array of NRL stars both past and present for a comprehensive look at the week in Rugby League.

With a greater emphasis on the issues challenging the code, NRL on FOX will this year introduce a new segment, ‘Contrary Conduct’, where the panel will be joined by The Daily Telegraph’s Paul Kent to debate the game’s most controversial topics.

In Wednesday night’s debut show the team will also preview an exciting opening round of matches in the Telstra Premiership, with a spotlight on Wayne Bennett’s first appointment as coach of the Newcastle Knights against his former club St.George-Illawarra.

Panthers General Manager Phil ‘Gus’ Gould will also feature on the show in an exclusive interview to share his vision for the future of Penrith and the challenges facing the game in the west.

sounds like they're copying controversy corner which isn't a bad thing

Warren Smith doesn't work when trying to lay down his opinions on a panel. He is a brilliant commentator, and does nicely discussing the issues of the game during half time etc, but when he is sitting there with a bunch of other personalities he just comes across as an arrogant douche most of the time.

Phelan was great as he knew how to keep the conversation flowing and move the show along. He essentially would raise a topic, then interview the other panelists to get their opinions and create discussion, then move it along once all voices were heard. Smith ends of trying to impose his beliefs on every conversation which stifled NRL on Fox at times when he used to host the show.

Didn't know you could swear like that at 7.30pm.

I'm ok with it, but I bet some people aren't.
