From The Try Tag Rugby Website

Willesden 6 a side Astro Turf League
Try Tag Rugby are proud to announce a new Northwest London Tag Rugby competition at Cardinal Hinsley School in Willesden beginning Thursday February 4th. The facility is a brand new Astroturf pitch with portable floodlights. Due to the dimensions of the pitch the competition will have some very minor rule changes. Teams will be 6 a side on the pitch, with a 50-50 split between males and females. The cost to enter a team for the 7 week season is £320. If you wish to enter as an individual, the cost is £35 to be placed in a team.

The venue is a 10 minute walk from Willesden Junction tube station, whilst being only 15 minutes walk from Harlesden, Willesden Green and Dollis Hill stations. There are also excellent bus connections with areas of West London such as Shepherds Bush and Acton.

Anyone fancy a run? If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the the thread. Oztag or Tag Rugby is pretty much Rugby League without the tackling.

Just don't like the look of this version of rugby league being highjacked by union. I know one French organisation attributes the game to being from South Africa!

The only place you can say it's been hijacked by Union is Ireland, where the IRFU initially backed the expansion of the game. If it wasn't for the IRFU, then the game wouldn't be as big as it is in Ireland. There is one small organisation in the south of England aligned to the RFU promoting Tag, but so far they haven't had much success. Try Tag Rugby is not aligned to the RFU! As for France, as far as I know there is only one small organisation promoting tag.

At the end of the day if Rugby Union bodies want to get behind tag or touch they are playing a sport which is pretty much Rugby League without the tackling. It can only be good for RL is the long run. One of the funniest things I've heard since being in the UK was a South African girl sitting in a pub where I went to watch the Super League heard saying "what's this strange game, it's like a tackling version of touch!"

Nope. Rugby is a generic term for Union. Union is so much bigger than league that most people abbreviate RU to just Rugby.

The fans of both codes refer to their sport as Rugby. The media struggles to differentiate, and often at times gets confused.

Isn't league called rugby in the UK and union is union?
No, a few people use that to prove a point, but rugby can mean either sport as a collective term (often used just for RU in those parts of the country where they play very little RL) or people say (rugby) union and rugby (league), depends on the context. I'm usually specific but if talking to someone who doesn't know much about it I'll say I'm goign to watch the rugby whether that is league or union

They need to push Tag and Touch as a Cardio fitness game as well.

Certainly. Though it's fair to say cardio fitness is a huge part of touch due to the one dimensional nature of the game.

Tag Rugby on the other hand needs a decent level of fitness whilst incorporating more of the skills found in Rugby League such as back line movements, good line running and grubber kicks.

Where are you at the moment Hindy? Am i right in thinking you've taken off to Canada for a while?

Yeah I took off to Canada for some snowboarding, back in the UK now...

Deciding on what 2010 holds, if I am going to stay in London I'll need a new visa. If I am staying I will be playing tag this season and bringing some mates along. May even get back into some league as well, and get the ST at Quins.

Decision to be made very shortly

There are 4 rugby clubs in my town, none of them are union clubs
Which town's that?

My village has one RU and no RL, but the city (Coventry) just by it has about 10-15 rugby clubs, one of which is rugby league and the rest RU

Sounds great, very jealous of the snowboarding trip!

My business partner is coaching South London Storm this year, they started training last night. I can pass you on his details or vice versa if you like.

Hey Ali

Got to head back to Aus to apply for a new visa. Will try and get in contact upon my return with a set of boots. Need to play some sort of footy, tag or real this season.
